The Vampires Slave
Chapter 4
I looked at Austin in surprise. I thought he would live in a apartment. Well, a medieval apartment or so anyways. Instead I was staring at a mansion. The grounds were surrounded by high stone fences. It looked beautiful.
Austin took my hand and led me down the path to the house. The front and left side of the cream colored mansion were covered in ivy, which seemed to lazily climb its way up to the roof, giving the mansion a lived in look.
"What do you do for a living Austin?", I asked astonished. What sort of work was there in a world like this?
"I produce wine. These are the grounds of our winery.", Austin remarked proudly.
"'Our'?"
"Yeah, it's been in my family for thousands of years. My family still lives here."
"Austin!!", we heard someone squeal. A slender blond haired girl of about seventeen came running out of the house, flinging herself into Austins arms.
"Awww Austin! You shouldn't have! You brought me my dinner!", She exclaimed loudly.
Dinner? What?! No, I had to get away from her. Fast. I was about to run when Austin pulled me back to him.
"No, Ashes. This is Samantha. She's a friend. Not food.", He said slowly, like he was talking to a small child.
"But mom said that we're not allowed to befriend our food. I'll tell her!", She spat angrily. I shrunk back a little, seeing as I must have started a fight of sorts between them. Judging from the way they yelled and glared at each other, I figured they were brother and sister.
"Ashes! For the last time! SHE IS A GUEST HERE!!! NOT DINNER!", Austin yelled. He glanced at me for a moment, frowning as I continued to stare at them.
Ashes just glared at him angrily before slowly turning and running away. I looked over to Austin, in time to see him pinch the bridge of his nose in frustration.
"MOOOOM AUSTIN IS PLAYING WITH THE FOOD!!!", She yelled before she disappeared into the house.
"ASHES! I TOLD YOU SHE'S OUR GUEST!", He shouted while running after her. I gave a nervous chuckle, before lifting my hand to scratch the back of my head. What was I to do now? Should I just follow them, or should I wait here? Common sense and manners kept me standing with a straight back rooted to the spot, awaiting their return. I sighed, when I suddenly felt a cold hand on my shoulder. I hated that people- Well, vampires- kept popping up behind me.
"Are you lost, mortal?", I heard a raspy voice say.
I spun around quickly and saw an old man standing in front of me. He had piercing blue eyes and gray hair. What was he here? A butler? I eyed him for a moment before I tried to answer. He wore a dark blue suit. As my eyes drifted back to his face, I flinched inwardly. His eyes made me nervous. They seemed to be staring into my soul.
"Uh, I-", I mumbled nervously. What was I to say to him? That I was waiting for someone? What if Austin would get into trouble because of me then? Though I didn't have to say anything, as he stared at me for a minute before turning around.
"Follow me then, mortal.", He said finally.
I nodded like a scolded child and followed him with my head bowed. He walked into the mansion, the same way as Austin and Ashes. Though I didn't know what else I'd expected from him. Maybe some creepy looking secret passage into the vampires lair? After a few minutes he took a left turn and we ended up in a living room. There were soft looking couches, and book shelfs full of thick books. Soft piano sounds filled the room and only then did I notice the white grand piano which stood proudly in the right corner of the room. An elderly woman sat at the piano and played. She had soft brown hair, which fell loosely around her face as she played. We stood in silence until she finished.
"Lucretia?", The old man said slowly, as to not frighten her.
"Yes Kaige?", She answered as she noticed us.
"We have a visitor I guess...", Kaige explained.
"Oh, Hello my mortal child, what is your na-"
"MOOOOM!!! AUSTIN IS PLAYING WITH OUR FO- Oh...", Ashes yelled until she saw us all together. "Sorry for the yelling mother. Father.", She said as if to apologize for her screaming.
"Well, I was just about to ask what her nam-"
"MOOM, ASHES IS LYING!!!", Austin screamed as he entered the room. He looked around until he spotted me. "Samantha!", He exclaimed, and ran over to me to hug me.
"Austin, who is this? And what are her whereabouts? Is she a slave girl?", Lucretia finally asked.
"No. This is Samantha, she was accidental brought to Draegan.", He stated matter-of-factly.
"What do you mean?", Kaige asked.
"She was brought here against her will."
"Ohh, so it's exotic food?", Ashes squealed happily.
"Ashes, she is your brothers guest, if you are hungry, you know where the kitchen is.", Lucretia said.
"Austin, show Samantha where her room will be. From the looks of it, she will be staying here for a while.", Lucretia said smiling.
"Thank you.", I whispered, my head bowed.
Austin took my hand once again and led me out.
"Come on, I've got an idea on how to get you home...", He whispered.
