The next morning my alarm woke me up at he crack of dawn. Bloody thing. The amount of times it's played up in the last month has been ridiculous. I'm due for a new alarm clock sooner or later.

I groaned as I sat up from bed, swinging my legs around and stomping into the bathroom. I turned on the water and went straight into heaven.

The door to heaven was only glass and it swung away much too easily, but I'm not complaining. I followed the white light that came down from my bathroom window and ended up where I was.

I got dressed and headed downstairs meeting my family in the kitchen, but not before grabbing my phone off my bedside.

Ebony was there, sitting on one of the kitchen stools, eating some type of cereal, probably Froot Loops. Mum and Dad were also in the kitchen, enjoying a cup of coffee.

"Morning honey, you're up early." Mum greeted me.

I only grunted back in response making Dad laugh, as I poured a cup for myself.

"Rough night?" He asked me.

"Stupid alarm went off too early." I grumbled and Dad laughed again.

"Then get a new one?" He offered.

I snorted. "Yeah, and with what money?"

"The money you get from a job," Mum added in.

"And what job is that?" I asked the both of them.

The shared a look, and I just knew that something was about to happen. When no one offered any more words, I broke their gaze.

"Parents." I said snapping my fingers in front of their eyes. "You're being all lovey dovey."

They snapped their heads to look at me again, and my mother smiled.

"Oh. Where was I...?"

"Money and job." I reminded her.

"Oh right. Your father and I have been thinking, and talking to people." She started.

"Yeah?" I said ushering her along.

"You remember Rico right?" I nodded and she continued. "He's just started a diner downtown and is looking for employees. So there's a place there if you want it?"

I thought about it quickly. Rico was a big buff Italian fella and he knew how to cook. "Yeah, sure."

Mum squealed lightly. "Okay I'll go tell him soon!"

I laughed with her. "Okay. Anyway I have to get to school. Dad can I drive the Mustang again today?" I gave him my best puppy dog eyes, but he didn't fall for it.

He scoffed. "You're dreaming kiddo. Take a walk, you need the exercise anyway."

Mum came over and slapped him over the head. "Brett! Our daughter is not fat. She doesn't need to exercise."

Ebony suddenly looked up from her cereal. "No, but Mummy, you are."

Mum slapped my Dad over the head again. "Look! You're putting ideas in Ebony's head. She's 7, she doesn't need those thoughts."

"Okay, okay I'm sorry." Mum still slapped him again, this time harder. "Ow! What was that one for?"

"Because I felt like it. Athena dear," she turned to me. "Take the Suzuki to school. And drop Ebony off at the primary school please." She told me, gently pushing Ebony out of her chair.

"Yeah, sure. Bye you two." Ebony grabbed her bag from the floor and ran towards to the front door. "Don't open that door until I get there!" I yelled at her.
