Today was the day that everyone had been waiting for.
The state championship.
The entire dance team sat in the locker room doing their hair and makeup. But everyone was studying considering mid-terms started Monday.
"So my Christmas party for the whole dance team is next Friday night since mid-terms and football season will be over. We're doing white elephant, everyone doesn't spend more than forty dollars. Got it?" Mae announced before she sat down next to me
Everyone nodded.
"I'm also throwing a New Year's party. It's gonna be a great time." Mae told me as I put the cap on my setting spray
"Are you okay? You're not being chatty tonight." Mae asked me
I nodded, "I taught a junior contemporary and jazz class until nine at night, stayed up doing homework until one. I only got four hours of sleep."
"That sucks." Mae frowned
"Yeah, but they pay well," I sighed
Mae helped me warm up and stretch as we talked.
"I haven't talked to Weston at all on a deep level since we were in Florida. So almost two weeks? all we've said is hi and bye. When his practice is over, it's time for me to go to the studio, and by the time we both get home we're both so aggravated that it's hard to talk to each other." I told her as I did in a lounge
Mae nodded, "I understand. It's the same way with Houston and I. We're young and busy, it's something we can't help."
"I know, but I feel like we're growing apart from what we were in Florida," I said lowly
Mae sighed as she slid into a split, "I hope you're not thinking what I think you're thinking."
I shook my head, "I'm not! But I feel myself approaching that."
The dance team rehearsed our bleacher combo and our field routine. Then we got on a hot school bus to take an hour drive, because of the traffic.
My phone buzzed as we pulled up to the stadium.
"Earth to Lennox!" Izzy nudged me
I looked up, "Yeah?"
"We're getting off the bus," Izzy said pointing to the dancers and cheerleaders getting off of the bus
I stood up and grabbed my things. I rolled my eyes as Cora passed me and jumped behind Mae.
"Dude, he's talking about weddings," I whispered as I handed Mae my phone
She read the texts, "What's wrong with this? This is like every girl's dream."
"Mae, we're sixteen. I don't even wanna think about that. The freakin' bride emoji." I pointed out
