New York City used to seem like a dream.

All the pictures shown to me made me yearn even more to be there. And now, I was living in New York. The city with millions of lights, thousands of people and shops at every stop, was now my home. I guess I was sad about leaving all my friends and my old home but I was excited about the new adventures and possibilities in this new city. I remember tears dripping down my face when every single person I knew came to say goodbye at the airport. I remember constantly flipping through the photos of me and my friends during the flight.

"Alison! I might need some help in here!" I was interrupted from my thoughts by my mother's voice coming from inside the house.

"Coming," I called back.

I then took a look at the white house in front of me. My home. My new home.  It was a nice, simple house; I had liked it immensely as soon as I had set eyes on it. I knew soon I would get accustomed to it. It had a small garden filled with flowers on the front and a dirt-free backyard.

My mom had decorated the house all by herself, and despite my laziness I had promised to help her, now that Kevin was not around to help her with the housework.

Although I was extremely excited to be in the city of my dreams, along came the disappointment known as high school. On one hand I was excited because I was going to high school but on the other hand I wasn't. High school, the biggest social test of your life, sort of scared me because I was not used to being in the spotlight.

I was shy. I guess I was pretty too but not beautiful. My wavy brown hair reached slightly below my shoulders, my fair complexion went with my big green eyes and a thin nose.

It had been almost a week since I had moved here and I guess I couldn't avoid high school forever could I? Sucks to be me.

As it was my first day, my dad dropped me off at school. The rush of all the students was both thrilling and terrifying.

Who knew whom I would find here. I was so socailly awkward. I was from a small town so I wasn't used to it. My dad had come to New York for a better job. I breathed heavily and went inside. After some trouble, I found my locker.

Since I was a newcomer, a lot of people tried to be nice and helped me around. But you never know who's acting so I just smiled back politely and said my 'thank yous' graciously. But one who stayed with me all the time was this girl named Jennifer. She had been in New York since kindergarten. She was very pretty and kind; she helped me around and introduced me to her friends.

I wasn't really thrilled about that, I liked keeping to myself and not disturbing people. Jennifer was the complete opposite of me. She showed me to my classes which most of them were with her. I guess I was a bit happy about that. I didn't want to be a complete loner.

During lunch, I preferred to sit alone but Jennifer dragged me to sit at a table full of girls. They were apparently talking about their school's "most popular boy".

Immature. Huh.

They were sitting there just to watch him enter the cafeteria. I thought they were overreacting when at last the one most awaited by the girls around me walked in, hushed whispers filled the room as the most desired one strolled in.

Do these people have nothing better to do?

Half of the girls around me just stared dumb-struck just as I was.

With a straight, lean and handsome figure he looked someone out of a movie. He had a fair, soft skin with shimmery golden-brown hair which kept falling over his forehead like the sort you see in shampoo commercials. Then there was his charming smile to consider.
