True to his word, Kevin and Rachel weren’t at home when I came back home from school. The atmosphere of the house was gloomy, Mom wasn’t saying anything and Dad had decided not to come home because he was still at the office.
I really missed Kevin, without him the house felt incomplete. I really wanted to call him but I didn’t because I was afraid I’d start crying on the phone.
I was lying on my bed after two weeks of Kevin’s departure, wishing I had said goodbye to him properly before he left.
Kevin had called a couple of times, but I had always been busy somewhere else or maybe he didn’t want to talk to me because he couldn’t face me.
I missed him terribly, Jennifer had noticed my mood but hadn’t said anything for which I was grateful to her. I didn’t feel like talking to anyone anyway. Jeremy called every night as usual, he was such a joyful person that it was not possible to ignore him.
He made me feel happy and feel wanted, but he had been busy for the past few days as he was out of city. I didn’t know much about his family because he never mentioned them.
Dylan called once or twice, once to apologize for what had happened because he felt it was his fault and then again to check up on me. He was very nice and pleasant person, but I still didn’t know him properly.
He didn’t talk much but I noticed him talking to Jeremy a lot, maybe they were getting along but I didn’t dare ask Jeremy.
A whole two months had passed since I had moved to New York and all sorts of horrible and good things had happened in this short period of time.
After having enough of sitting around in my room, I went downstairs and sank on to the couch in the living room. I switched on the television. Mom wasn’t at home, she had joined this new organization which helped needy people.
It was just her excuse to get away from home, and I rarely saw Dad now. He stayed at the office late, and didn’t return until 3 in the morning.
I quickly switched off the television when the bell rang and walked towards the main door. When I opened the door I saw…Jeremy?
“Hey Jeremy,” I said as soon as I wrapped my head around the fact that Jeremy was standing right in front of me.
“Hi,” Jeremy replied giving me a warm smile.
I offered him a drink after he sat down. I was curious about him being here, it had to be something urgent.
“So what brings you here?” I asked as soon as I sat down on the couch opposite his.
“I was bored and I’m sure you are too so I thought you would maybe like to go with me to the carnival to hang out?”
The carnival had just opened a few weeks ago. I was planning to go, but because of my mood had been avoiding it. Jennifer had tried a couple of times to drag me over there but I had been stubborn.
“I don’t know.” I replied not wanting to refuse to him just but I really didn’t feel like socializing.
Jeremy somehow convinced me to come along even though I didn’t want to go I couldn’t just say no. I tried to refuse a few times but was unsuccessful, so finally I gave in and rushed upstairs to change.
