Chapter Eleven

I'm very confused about Elphaba right now. She loves me, then hates me, loves me, hates me. Its getting on my nerves. I'll add that to the list of questions I'm going to ask her when we get to the 'Emerald City'. I zone back into the real world when Elphaba hands me an umbrella. OH! So we're thieves now! Great! The green girl hasn't changed much!

I watch her close her eyes and focus on something. She reaches toward her chest and her hand actually goes through her skin. I almost scream from the look of pain on her face. Her hand slowly comes out of her chest holding something. Her heart.

I start hyperventilating. That shouldn't be possible, she should be dead. Elphaba motions for me to stay as she goes down the stairs. I watch her in awe.

"Evenora!" Elphie runs up to the lady and hugs her like a lost child, "I'm so sorry! I didn't know it was you! I'm so sorry. Theodora told me everything!" It sounds like Elphie is crying. I don't understand what she is doing. Elphaba is also lying, lying like a Dog/dog.

"I won't cause any more trouble, I promise," Elphie backs away. She opens the front door and snow blows in. Elphaba tries not to flinch as she gestures for me. I'm terrified of the old lady, Evenora was it?

I walk down the stairs being careful, so I don't trip on my huge dress. Once down the stairs, I hurry over to Elphaba. She closes the door behind us as we leave. I open the umbrella and hand it to her.

Elphie takes it from me without even saying "Thanks". Elphaba does look really tired, so I shouldn't give her so much grief.

"How far away is the Emerald City?" I decide to break the silence with this simple question.

"Not very far. We be there in no time," Elphaba says this as we walk through a scary forest. For some reason, I don't believe her.

~~Elphaba's POV~~

"That thing you did with your heart, what is it?"Galinda is talking nonstop. But there is a benefit to that. Her constant jabbering is the only thing keeping me awake. We reach the end of the forest.

"You must know that I'm terrible at lying and deep down in my heart, I actually do care about people so-" I hear the heavy flapping of wings in the distance. This terrifies me. I hurry to the crossroads of China Town and The Emerald City. China town is close but all destroyed and The Emerald City is far away but safe. Evenora wouldn't think to look for us in China Town.

I throw the umbrella down and pick up Galinda and run to China Town, "What are you do-" Galinda tries to talk but I clamp my hand over her mouth. She still tries to talk but I whisper in her ear.

"There are things following us, please just keep quiet," I set her down on a little mattress inside one of the little houses to keep her hidden then grab the Grimmerie from her arms. I then go to a house diagonal from her to look through the Grimmerie.

My hands shake violently as I flip the pages. I got Galinda into this mess. I SHOULD HAVE MADE HER GO! I'M SUCH AN IDIOT! I slam my hands into the Grimmerie. Now that Evenora knows that I took Theodora, she is probably going to return the favor by taking someone really close to me.

"Dammit," I say this under my breath. Looking up at my hands, my eyes widen in awe. Fear counteracts anger.

"Kraaaaaw" this sound comes from in front of me. Slowly looking up, I shake with fear. The ugly flying monkey is signaling it's friends. Frozen with fear, all I can do is stare as the ugly monkeys start surrounding my only exit.

~~Galinda's POV~~

I watch as my non-green best friend tries to defend herself. I feel like I am betraying her, but I can't move. I'm literally frozen in place. Elphie uses her new powers to push them away, but I can tell that her struggle is in vain. Her power is too weak from exhaustion.

It is very cold outside and frost starts forming on my dress. I try to get up but my dress is stuck. That's why I couldn't move, the whole bottom of my dress is frozen to the ground!

"Elphie! They're on top of the house!" I yell this to her as she gets closed in by the monkeys. I struggle to get free from the ice's grasp, but to no avail. It's like the ice is alive, it's crawling up my body. But its not cold. It's like a blanket.

"I'm sorry!" Elphaba uses her power to collapse the house on herself and the monkeys. I cry in terror. The houses might not be that heavy but they sure are sharp.

"ELPHABA!" I scream and struggle against the frost that incases me. It's no use. In the distance I see many figures flying toward us.

I can only think of the worst.
