   A sharp prod awoke Wisppaw.
"Time for training." It was his mentor, Scalefur.
"Alright, I'm up," Wisppaw said, letting out a huge yawn.
"No need to eat. We won't be training that long," Scalefur said.
"What are we doing?" Wisppaw asked. He stretched, his claws unsheathed in pleasure.
   "Hunting." Wisppaw jumped up.
"Really! You think I can climb that well?" He squeaked. Scalefur nodded.
"You can climb really well for a beginner. If you keep it up, you might make warrior before your sisters." At that, Wisppaw almost yowled in joy. "Alright, settle down. We still need to teach you to hunt, remember?" Wisppaw nodded, calming down like his mentor instructed. He followed his mentor out of the den. They climbed through the trees. Only stopping when they reached a large flowering tree.
"Be as quiet as possible when climbing that tree. There are a few birds up there. When you get there, keep your feet in, tail still, and stay as close to the branch as possible. When you feel you can jump on the bird, do it. Make sure to bite the back of the neck and twist," Scalefur whispered. Wisppaw nodded. He crept up the tree. He kept low to the bark. Soon he was close to the bird. The bird must have seen him, since it started to fly. Wisppaw jumped, grabbed its tail feather, and tried to pull it to himself. The bird felt his claws on its tail. It flapped its wings as fast as possible, escaping the claws of Wisppaw.
Wisppaw started to fall. He tried to grab the branches as he fell, yet they were just out of his reach. He thought he was going to die when, thump! He landed on something soft. He opened his eyes, which he had closed during his fall. Wisppaw was siting on a branch. He stepped to the side to see a almost flattened bird beneath him. Wisppaw smiled as much as a cat could. He grabbed his prey, and raced down the tree.
Scalefur congratulated him. They shared the bird. Scalefur allowed them to eat since hunting had taken longer than expected, and he didn't want his apprentice to starve. He had caught a few fish, so the clan was taken care of. He tried to briefly teach Wisppaw to fish, but it took the rest of the day. They wearily went pack to camp, each carrying their fish. As they dropped their fish in the prey basket, Wisppaw bumped into Vineflower, a newly made warrior. Her eyes turned from surprise to warmth. She quickly climbed away. Wisppaw shook himself. They plopped den in their different dens, Wisppaw's muscles aching. Soon asleep, their breathing slowed. Rain sprinkled, trying to get the cats wet, but the slick leaves woven in the branches kept it out.
