Chapter 6 The great (almost) escape

Sona P.O.V

In a way, I did benefit from sneaking around the house, and staying out of sight, even though my mother thought otherwise. Because if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish the feat that lay on my shoulders now.

I crept through the shadows, realizing where I had been taken to. If the dark hallways and out dated technology didn’t give it away, the fact that there were no windows did. Not a window, the walls were bare and chipped with age, but not a single one appeared. But the shadow worked to my advantage.

We were underground. Which meant one thing:

I was in a rebels building.

I had no time to dwell on this though, for I had to make it out before my family starved to death. I pulled myself into another corridor, this one identical to all of those I had crept through. On the opposite end, just around the corner I heard voices. No no no no no! But I’ve come so far already!

Panicking, I whipped my head back and forth, looking for an escape route. Doors, locked. Running, nowhere to go.  Aha, but the pipes that ran along the ceiling, vacant.

In a hurry, I jumped up, catching hold of the lowest pipe. The voices were closer, I could hear them now.

“I hate night duty, gives me the creeps!” said a distinctively male voice, the statement was easily interpreted as a joke.

I pulled myself into the tightly packed ceiling, climbing through the array of pipes, being small did have its advantages I guess.

“There was no reason to sign up for the rebellion then.” It was another male voice which held authority, like a strict teacher or a boss.

“Come one Jace, it was just a joke…loosen up buddy.” Said the first voice, it was caring and sweet this time, one I could get used too.

“Wyatt, you will address me by my last name. We can’t be distracted by anything. Nothing at all.” Jace said, but he made it sound like he was reminding himself more than Wyatt.

“Ok then, Adams, but we-” I shifted accidentally, making a small rustling noise “Hey,” Wyatt began “did you hear that?”

I stiffened my body out of fear, causing my right foot to slip, sending me tumbling from my perch in the down onto the cold concrete floor of the corridor.

Great way to blow my cover, right?

“So, what do we have here?” I looked up to see the boy who must be Wyatt starring down at me with an amused expression. His appearance defiantly fit the bit of his personality which I had already see. He had brown hair that hung down to his ears, and would have fallen into his eyes if it hadn’t been swept to the side, and eyes that could never be classified as one color. His lips parted in a smile, one that made me want to grin right alongside him. He had crouched down to my level on the floor and was scanning me for injury with his shining eyes.

The man being him, was less friendly looking. His dirty blond hair was styled away from his face in a quiff and stubble engulfed his chiselled jaw. He starred at me with icy blue eyes and was muscular, very muscular. Less terrifying then mason, but still looked like he could squeeze me to a pulp.

“Drug her” Jace said, only seconds after I had hit the ground. “We are taking her to Fox.” Who the heck is fox?

“No, I could never do that!” Wyatt said in defense “she’s lost, can’t you see?”

“Fine then, I’ll do it.” Jace replied stepping towards me.

I sat up, and pushed myself back, farther away from him. Wyatt was staring at Jace with a look of almost horror on his face as he pulled out what much resembled an epi-pen from one of the pockets in his cargo pants and snapped the lid off, reveling a long sharp needle.

I felt my back hit the hard wall as Jace took another step towards me, reaching out and grabbing my wrist. I twisted and squirmed, but it was no use because he stabbed my upper arm with the needle.

It was the same thing every day and as they say practice makes perfect but they also say that ‘all work and no play makes jack a dull boy’ I don’t know where that one is from but I don’t like it as much.

I got to the cabin and saw Brian pacing back and forth with his hands together on his mouth, murmuring to himself

Uh oh

“Brian! What did you do this time?” I said making him pause

“Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllll”

“Brian just say it you idiot!”

“It wasn’t specifically me…”

“Brian just tell me!” raising my voice

“Well that girl that survived and I brought back… she kinda tried to escape but Adams and Wyatt caught her.”

“BRIAN! I told you just to kill her at the spot!” storming out running to the medical office.

“Well it turns out the drugs don’t work as well on her.”

“Well why did you even bring her! Huh! You endanger everyone because of…of” I paused at the door “You haven’t even told me why you bought her!”

“Well… Because let’s go!” he was now the one storming in.

She was lying there nurse white sticking the IV back in her arm she had blond hair and freckles and while dirty she was still quite pretty,

I looked up and saw Jace talking to a commander organizing how this could be taken care of. He was always one of my favorites organized, strong but no matter how hard you pushed him even if it broke his arm he wouldn’t complain.

I am always slightly afraid he’s going insane inside but I think everyone her is.

Brian seemed creepily drawn to her as I talked to Nurse White about her medical exams

“What do you mean we don’t have them?” I yell whispered

“SHHHHH!” said Brian

She’s waking up.
