The next morning I went to the trailer. Maggie and Jesus were sitting by the steps.
“Morning guys. Have you seen Sasha?” I asked trying not to sound worried.
“Yeah. She went over to Abraham’s. She should be back in a few minutes,” Maggie answered.
“Oh. Okay,” I said.
“Is something wrong?” she asked.
“No. Just wanted to talk to her about Abraham. She hasn’t said much about him,” I lied.
“That’s true. Well you can wait here for her,” she said.
“Yeah. I think I’ll do that,” I said.
She looked over at Jesus.
“Sorry for taking over your trailer,” she said.
“Oh. I grew up with a lot of people around. I’m used to it,” Jesus said.
“Had a big family?” I asked.
“Uh...group home. This isn’t like that, though. Not the bad parts, at least. For the first time, I feel like I belong. Trying to make sure you two and Sasha became a part of this made me a part of this. When I was first here...I was never here. I, um...I always found it hard getting close to anyone...neighbors, friends...boyfriends,” he said.
I smiled.
“You should try it sometime. Even if it doesn’t last,” Maggie said.
“Yeah. You’ll find it’s rewarding,” I said placing my hand on Maggie’s shoulder.
“I’m gonna talk to our blacksmith about making more spears. Maybe we can trade with the Kingdom for some body armor. Thing is, what we really need is riot gear,” Maggie said.
The both of them had stood up. I sighed in relief when I saw Sasha make her way to the trailer. Maggie rested a hand on her shoulder. The both of them took off.
“Sasha. I need to talk to you,” I said.
“Hold up. Let me just get something from the trailer,” she said going inside.
Enid came up to me.
“You talk to her yet?” she asked.
“I’m about to,” I said.
Jesus came by. We all decided to head in. Sasha had the book that Jesus kept extra bullets in.
“I was...looking for something to read the other day,” she said placing the book back.
We all knew she was lying.
“You can have the bullets. I didn’t know you had a gun,” Jesus said.
“I didn’t. I do now,” Sasha said.
“Sasha. Please. Don’t go. Can’t you see we're so close to being ready,” I said pleadingly.
She sighed.
“Rosita didn’t come here to train people,” Jesus said.
“Wait. Hold up. When did Rosita get here?” I asked.
“About an hour ago,” Sasha said.
“You’re both going after Negan,” Jesus said.
“You can’t do that without backup, Sasha,” I said.
“A lot of backup,” Jesus said.
“We’ve talked about this. I know what you think. What you all think. And I appreciate that. But I’m not gonna change my mind. She’s not. Does Maggie know Rosita’s here yet?” Sasha said.
