I turned over in bed to stop my blaring alarm clock. Mr. Mistoffelees, my black and white tuxedo cat, jumped up on my bed. He started mewing, probably wanting food. "Ugh, fine. I'll feed you." I rolled out of bed and onto the floor.
I made my way to the laundry room where his food was kept. "Come on, buddy." I called him over, pouring food into his bowl. As I walked back to the kitchen to get myself some breakfast, I started singing softly.
"Oh, well I never, was there ever a cat so clever as magical Mr. Mistoffelees?" I chuckled to myself. Mr. Mistoffelees seemed like such a dumb name for a cat...if you weren't into musicals, that is. Cats the Musical was just one of the many broadway musicals I loved.
Just thinking about musicals made me happy. Speaking of musicals...my all time favorite musical Newsies (even though it had ended), was going to be filmed professionally live, right here in my home town!
Newsies wasn't just my favorite because of the award winning musical numbers, amazing acting, and attractive boys. I was obsessed because my best friend was in it: Nick Masson. He grew up as my neighbor, and we were both into musical theater.
He was more talented than me, though. I had auditioned for the part of Zoey Murphay in Dear Evan Hansen the same week he auditioned for Newsies. He got a callback and eventually the part, while I got the speech of 'You're really talented, but you're not quite what we're looking for. Don't give up."
Even though I was bummed about not getting called back, I was overjoyed for Nick. He had been on tour with the show, so we were all pretty sure he'd get in; but that didn't dampen our excitement when he did.
I turned my attention back to the present, but only to realize we were out of cereal. I went to get dressed in my work clothes (black shirt with logo and black pants). I needed coffee today, and I could grab a scone for my breakfast. I grabbed my laptop and purse, then headed for the door.
I sent a quick text to Nick as I walked out the door, I realized I still had my sweatshirt on. The sweltering heat of early June made me head back in and take it off. The AC didn't work in my car, so I would appreciate taking it off later.
Right before I closed the door, I heard someone walking down the stairs. "Sissy? Where are you going?" My little sister Mary rubbed her sleepy eyes, looking confused. Mary was six, and the sweetest little girl I knew. I loved her to death.
"I'm just going to work." I kissed her head and told her I'd be back later. "Bye." She smiled, revealing her toothy grin. "Love you babe." I smiled, and walked out the door; for real this time. I was constantly running late things.

Ninth Street Espresso was a quaint coffee place. The little shop was nearly hidden along the bustling streets of NYC, but once Nick and I discovered it, we went there all the time together, and I immediately knew I wanted to work there someday. I sighed thinking about the great times we had together.
I slowly made my way to the door. I wasn't feeling very awake today. It was strange... 'Maybe I'm coming down with something' I thought. I pushed the thought aside and walked in. This place was like a second home to me. Well, third; second being Nick's house.
