Josh's POV
"I should probably be heading home..." That was my cue. "I'll walk you." I interrupted, opening the door. Nick glared at me, but I ignored him. I needed to talk to Bre alone, and this could be the only chance I'd get.
"No, that's really ok. I can take her." Nick smiled warmly. "Nick, I just spent the last hour with you. It's ok if Josh walks me home." She gave Nick a weird look. 'Good, she's on my side,' I thought.
"Bye Nick." She said, giving him a hug. He hugged her back, but it was rather stiff. He was mad at me, but I'd explain later; that is, if he let me. "Come on Josh. I'm ready to go." She smiled at me and grabbed her purse.
I yet again ignored Nick's glares, and headed out the door with Bre in tow. The elevator was ridden in silence, as was our short walk through the lobby. Once we were under the open sky, I started talking.
"So Bre... I'm not the best with confrontation, but I don't feel like stalling. I'm just going to come right out and ask you." I started. I really hoped she'd take this well.
Bre's POV
I didn't get why Nick wouldn't let me spend a little time with Josh. Nick had me to himself for the past hour, and our entire childhood. I could have other friends. And I mean, if he was worried about me liking Josh? He had nothing to worry about. Josh and I were good friends and nothing else.
"So Bre..." Josh broke the silence. Uh oh. I should've known he wanted something. Why can't anyone just enjoy spending time with me? "I'm not the best with confrontation, but I don't feel like stalling. I'm just going to come right out and ask you." He continued.
"Oh, um, ok!" I tried to be cheery. "You don't by chance happen to think we're dating, do you?" He shifted awkwardly. "What?" I asked bewildered. "Well..." He glanced around nervously. "No, I don't. Where would you get that idea from?" I asked, clearly confused.
"Well, Nick is jealous. I don't think he realizes we're just friends, and I just wanted to make sure you hadn't been contradicting everything I'd been trying to get him to believe." He rushed.
"Don't worry. Friends is all we'll ever be." I tentatively said, not wanting to hurt his feelings. Thankfully, a look of relief crossed his face for a brief second. "Thank you." He smiled.
"Josh and Bre. Friends forever?" I asked, giggling. "Friends forever." He confirmed, pulling me into a hug.
Nick's POV
As a kid, I was always taught not to spy or eavesdrop. But this was different. I had to know Josh's reasoning for walking Bre home. I stuffed my phone in my pocket and walked out a few minutes after they left.
They hadn't walked very far when they stopped. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but I couldn't risk getting any closer. It's blow my cover for sure. "I'm just going to come right out and ask you." I heard Josh say.
Just before he asked, a car sped right past me, making it impossible to hear anything else. I then heard Bre laugh; it was such a beautiful, melodious sound. Then, Josh hugged her. That's it. They were dating.
My amusement suddenly turned into anger. How could he? I was already trying to contain my anger from him walking her home, but this? I couldn't let this go.
They continued, but I had seen enough. I headed back to the hotel, dejected. "Josh better have a good explanation for this." I muttered to myself.
Josh's POV
I sighed in relief when she accepted my hug. I was glad to get that off my chest, but that was really awkward. I dropped her off at her apartment, and slowly walked back to the hotel.
Sky would probably be asleep by the time I got back, so I wouldn't have to worry about him waiting up for me. Good. I needed lots of alone time after today.
