Carl Grimes's life was great. He had both parents, a ton of friends, and a great role model. His dad was a sheriff at the King's County Police Department, while his mom was a stay at home mother. His role model just so happened to be his dad's best...

Emily's Pov
"Daryl, cover the back." Dad said, as the group began to walk into the building. I allowed my bluebell eyes to adjust to the sudden change in lighting.
"Hello? Hello?" Rick called out, leading the group forward. The click of a gun turned the attention to a man in his middle thirties, who was holding a gun looking over the group.
"Anybody infected?" he asked, cautiously. Rick looked down and back at the man.
"One of our group was. He didn't make it." he stated, glancing around at the group.
"Why are you here? What do you want?" the man asked. He seemed to love to ask questions.
"A chance." Rick replied, bluntly. The man looked hesitant.
"That's asking an awful lot these days." he said, lowering his gun.
Rick nodded, "I know." I understood where the man was coming from. The dead are walking and there was no way to fully trust people these days.
"You all submit to a blood test. That's the price of admission." the man said. My eyes widened. 'No, no, no..', I thought, 'Please not that.'
Rick nodded, despite my silent protest, "We can do that." I inwardly groaned, which caused Carl to laugh.
The men went to get our things from the vehicles because the man explained once the doors close, they stay closed. Rick walked over to the man as the guys got back with the bags, and shook his hand.
"Rick Grimes." he introduced himself.
"Dr. Edwin Jenner." the man said back. He then led us all to an elevator.
The elevator ride was silent and cramped until Daryl spoke up. "Doctors always go around packing heat like that?" he asked in his gruff voice.
Jenner looked over his shoulder to answer Daryl, "There were plenty lying left around. I familiarized myself. But you look harmless enough." he said, before looking at me and Carl, "Except you two. You two look like partners in crime. I'll have to keep my eyes on you two."
I smiled at Carl, who smiled back. The elevator door opened and we all piled out. Jenner started to lead us down a long hallway, when I began thinking about how dark it was and if we were underground.
"Are we underground?" I asked Jenner curiously. He turned, but continued walking.
"Are you claustrophobic?" he asked with a smile. I shook my head and smiled.
"Depends on the situation. Right now, just a little." I stated. He chuckled.
"Try not to think about it.", he said as we enter a huge room with a number of computers, "VI, bring up the lights in the big room. Welcome to zone 5"
