"Hey Estell! We made dinner." I heard Josh say. His voice was so soothing, I almost drifted back to sleep. Till, he started to shake me vigorously. "Come on! I know you are comfortable with your cat and all, but you've got to be starving. We can answer any more questions if you have them, too."
"Fine-" I stopped as I was shocked that I had teleported out of my bed.
"Whoa! You used one of you powers! You need to learn how to control that sooner or later." Josh said surprised. I fell backwards from the sudden dizziness of rapidly getting up, then Josh caught me. He knew I was falling. I'll still never get over how he can know where I am, but he's blind.
"It... kind of looks like a grid." Josh said assuring my thoughts.
"What?" I said in my dazed confusion as Josh helped me up to my feet.
"My 'sight'. It looks like a sort of grid, and I see the outline of you from the heat radiating off your person. I can sense emotion from basic human interactions in my life." Josh answered. "Sorry... I can't help but hear your thoughts when they sound so beautiful." I could tell he was genuine. I smirked uncontrollably, and without hesitation, so did Josh. We both chuckled.
"Let's go get some food then, if you guys got it ready. Thank you. You've been so nice to me ever since I had gotten here. I think I'll be fine with you guys as my family."We both walked to the table where Meriah, Ciae and Amber sat. They were talking to each other, while obviously looking anxious to get to talk more to me, the basic new girl. I could tell they wanted to get to know more about me, as I did for them.
I finally got to see everyone together for the first time. It's weird, this bunch. Yes, you guys are weird, I thought knowing Josh could hear every word. I could see him chuckle with that adorable smirk of his.
"Okay, so everyone, we've prepared..." Amber said bringing a platter to the table. It was pretty large, knowing we'd have to feed five people. "Honey-glazed Ham! With sides, of course." She seemed super exited to be having ham.
"Well, we don't have big meals that often. It's also very rare we have new people come to the group, so we might as well celebrate!" Josh said knowing what I had thought.
"I'm not disappointed, I'm just happy that there's food!" I said trying not act rude. This is the first time I've seen Meriah fully happy. She must not get a large meal all the time, or any of them really.
"When I was with my family, I would have home cooked meals all the time," I was looking down at my plate, trying to hold back tears, "Until... my father had died... and we couldn't afford much from the funeral. I... I... my dinners were mostly small portions of different donated cans, like yams and green beans."
The room was so silent you you could hear someone blink.
"Your lucky you had a family at all. I was..." Meriah said as she chocked up, " I'm not going into that."
"We don't need to go too deep into things if you don't want to guys." Josh said, trying to calm us.
We mostly sat in silence with a few 'how was your day' and 'did you do anything special today' here and there. Damnit Marie, you made everything awkward.
"Ooh, Marie. Is that you last or middle name, if you don't mind me asking." Josh stated.
"Oh, my middle. The kids at my school would call me it. My friends..." I drifted off into thought. "Do my friends remember who I am? Or just my family doesn't anymore?"
Nobody fucking remembers who you are. Meriah said under her breath. Nice job keeping it real Meriah.
It was silence with only forks hitting plates, till Josh had clenched his hand and slammed the table. I was shocked he had acted this way since he was so calm.
"My... head... hurts..." he started grunting and panting. Was he okay?
"Thoughts... ARE ALL I CAN HEAR!" He was practically screaming. He got out of his chair and slid down the wall into a crouching position.
"Are you okay, Josh?!" I was so scared for him. I knew he could hear everyone's thoughts, but I thought he could just select a few to listen to. Either way it's complicated.
"Everyone, try not tho think, he needs his own headspace." Ciae said, trying not to harm Josh anymore. My heart was beating to much to be healthy. I need to do something... anything...
I sat down in front of Josh. Let me kiss you.
What? Josh thought. I could hear his response. We were in our own world of though, everything else was gone.
I know we just met, but I want to calm you. You need to relax.
I-I...
I couldn't help it.
I leaned in and touched his lips with my own. They were as soft as I thought they'd be. I know this is sudden. You and I need this, I know it.
He didn't want to think. He just kept kissing me.
He wrapped his arms around me and we started to embrace each other. I couldn't help but lend myself to this man. It was like my energy was draining strait through my lips. His touch was like a shock. He got better throughout the session and it felt amazing. I felt drowsy the more it happened, but I never wanted this to stop. But reality started to fade back and we stopped. I almost fainted from my energy being lost, I don't know how that could even happen. Josh helped me up, as if he had got his strength back from the kiss. He was better. That's what mattered.
"Why don't... we get back to dinner?" I said cautiously.
"Yea, had fun tossing tongues with Joshy boy over here?" Meriah said as we headed back to the table.
I snickered aloud, but in my head all I thought was hell fucking yeah.
