Marchioness Alitia sighed heavily, the previous night had been a disaster and could not be repeated at tonight's ball.

She drummed her nails on the glass table as she ordered her thoughts.

She had already sent letters to some of her allies and they would be present at tonight's ball.

Regardless of how useless the king was, neither he nor his daughter would be able to openly humiliate Lyretta.

Unfortunately, from the princess' behavior the previous night it was quite apparent that she felt a deep seeded hatred for Lyretta. If that was the case, she would not likely behave with decorum.

If that princess was uneducated enough to publicly shame Lyretta she would personally deal with her. With the help of the allies she had reached out to, thanks to the Soumi name, she would have the support she needed.

By having those allies present she would also indirectly put pressure on the king to publicly and officially acknowledge Lyretta as a princess of the kingdom. But even if he did not she was ready to turn over power to Lyretta and have her officially assume her title as countess.

She was prepared to do whatever was necessary to ensure that those who looked down on Lyretta would think twice, no thrice, before they even though of a single derogatory remark against her.

"Aunt, may I take a seat?" Lyretta entered the small garden still looking a little guilty.

Marchioness Alitia smiled a little. Definitely the lesson was learned. She gestured to the chair facing her and nodded at Lyretta.

Lyretta took a seat and exhaled the breath she had been holding, now she was sure that her Aunt was no longer mad at her.

"Go on eat." Marchioness Alitia pushed some freshly made fluffy pancakes in front of Lyretta.

This happened to be Lyretta's favorite food and since she had not eaten much the night before she was ravenous this morning. She immediately took a big bite and ate with gusto.

Marchioness Alitia watched and her eyes lit up with good humor.

"My goodness, the way you eat! People might think I don't feed you!" Marchioness Alitia giggled and Lyretta only Puffed out her cheeks for a moment before she once more concentrated on her delicious pancakes.

The marchioness ate a pancake too, albeit in a much more delicate and ladylike manner.

When both of them had finished their food, they went to walk around the small garden so that they could digest a little.

Marchioness Alitia took this as an opportunity to bring up the ball.

"Lyretta, what are you planning for tonight's ball? How are you going to face the princess?" Marchioness Alitia did not know about Lyretta's misguided decision the previous night and assumed that her little treasure might be apprehensive about meeting the princess at tonight's ball.

"No problem Aunt, I decided that I just need to get to know my big sister and given time she will like me." Lyretta smiled in a daze as she imagined the day when she and her sister would be the ones taking a leisurely walk like this.

Marchioness Alitia frowned. There was no way that things were going to work out that way. She decided, however, not to say anything. Her little treasure had been spoiled by her for too long. It was time for her to grow up and realize things on her own.

"And for the ball?" Marchioness Alitia repeated her question again.

"Well, I don't know." The dinner the previous night had been in part a practice for today's ball. She had met a few nobles the previous night, but her father had only introduced her as a simple Lady. Her attitude and other peoples attitude would change depending on whether or not he officially acknowledged her in the end.

For now, nothing was sure, and she would have to wait and see. As long as her father and sister did not cast her out everything could be worked out.

"I see." Marchioness Alitia could almost guess the thoughts that were passing through her little treasure's mind. Anyone could. Lyretta face always seemed to reveal all her thoughts and made her an open book.

"Lyretta, come with me." Marchioness Alitia ended their walk and with Lyretta following her, they returned to her room.

She looked at the maid waiting by her bedroom door and told her to go and get Lyretta's personal maid.

"Aunt, what will I need Maid Mia for? Lyretta found her Aunt's behavior rather mysterious but her curiosity won out and she followed eagerly.

"Well, because I have a present for you." Marchioness Alitia gave Lyretta a very gentle smiled and then turned around and reached into the depths of her closet and pulled out a trunk. A trunk that she had instructed no one else was allowed to touch except her.

She dragged it out and pushed it to the middle of the room.
