Chapter XV:
"He was here."
"Your owner... her came,"
I blew my nose on the piece of tissue paper that Micah handed me. It did took a while before I was able to pick myself up from my earlier outburst but still I cannot get myself to be all jolly and join in my friends' celebration. Honestly, I do not hate them for feeling this delighted. I know that the joy they are feeling right now is for my sake. If there is somebody I am angry at the moment, it would be me.
How can I be so stupid? I've literally waited for almost 5 years of my life to be able to get an opportunity like this and I've just allowed it to slip away. I gave off a sigh.
"I'm just plain stupid. Hopeless." I murmured to myself.
I giggled sadly and then tears once again formed in my eyes.
"I hate this!" I uttered and once again started to sob. Even if I tried to control my emotions over and over again it just keeps on leaking. I am not quite sure if it is due to sadness that I was not able to meet or even just see the person whom I've been waiting for a long time or happiness at the thought that he really kept his promise and came to the play. I gathered myself and buried my head on my knees. I am terribly hopeless! I can feel my friends enveloping me in tight hugs while they allowed me to cry my heart out. It is really nice to have them here. Though we are not really saying anything to each other their mere presence gives me the strength to get through these trying times.
The mixed feelings of happiness knowing that he came as promised, sadness that I wasn't able to see him, disappointment for not being able to finish the play, and anger that I was deprived of the very thing that I have been wishing for for almost five years now started building up inside of me and it seems like I am failing badly in controlling all of them. I could feel my body getting weaker and weaker as all of these stress was slowly eating me up. I'm just so lucky to have both my friends staying by my side. They never left until the time I was able to finally calm down and control my suppressed emotions.
"Here." Micah once again offered me some tissue to blow my nose with. Mae cupped my face inside her palms and started to wipe off my tears with her thumbs. I cannot help myself from smiling. We look like TV drama couples trying to make a scene.
"We need to get you prettied up. We don't want people you see you like this." Micah said and took some wet tissues from her bag and started to wipe off the ruined make-up rom my face while Mae redid my hair.
"Especially your owner," Mae said from my back.
I gave them a smile once more and took a few more deep breaths to really calm myself down.
"Done." Mae said after finishing my hair.
"I am also done here but," Micah gently cupped my bleeding hand, "I think it would be best if we first go to the infirmary and have this bandaged."
"Yeah. I don't think your owner would be delighted to see that."
The three of us exited the theatre. Both of them were escorting me all the way to the infirmary. I guess I was still a bit wobbly from all the emotions and events.
The school was literally deserted by the time we walked the corridors.
Even the people managing the kiosks are out.
"Where is everybody?" I asked.
"Beats us. We were with you all the while, were we not?" Mae replied while Micah shrugged my question off.
