Miriam's POV
17th century

I opened my eyes as the first ray of sun touched my face. I was staring at the face of Nathanial, his head was laying by my bedside and he was holding my hand. I opened my mouth to scream but I found myself staring into his eyes as he grasped my mouth with his hand.

"Don't speak," Nathanial quickly whispered.

"Why are you in my room?" I questioned, but Nathanial pointed a finger at my mouth for me to be quiet.

"I am leaving, you don't have to scream. Nothing happened here." He replied quickly ready to leave.

"You can't just leave without answering my question

"You can't just leave without answering my question." He turned around and looked at me angrily. "No, I want answers. You can't treat me like this Nathanial. One minute you are trying to help me and another minute you are yelling at me to leave. I can't with this, and now you are in my room." I say walking up to him and making him turn to face me.

"You know what Miriam... I was here last night... because I heard your scream in the middle of the night. I came to check thinking Hover might have done something to you. But you were screaming due to a nightmare and when I came to check up on you, you grasped my hand... and now we are here. Do you want to know anything else?" Nathanial replied jerking my hand off and leaving my room before I could ask him anything else.

Was he really telling the truth, I thought. It's been two months since I moved into aunt Clarkson's house and Nathanial has been like this toward me the whole time. At times, I feel as if he hates me and other times... he will do anything for me. Nathanial not only saved me from Hover that first time, but also from Hover's friend James Densen. Yet even between saving me, he kept his distance from me. I do not know why I was giving this too much of a thought, but his eyes, they accused me.

I picked up the blankets and fixed my bed ready to head downstairs. I have been helping around the kitchen to be less of a burden to Aunty Jennifer. There wasn't anything else I could do in the state that I was in. I was six months into my pregnancy and in three more months, my child would be born. As much as I was excited, there was some other feeling I couldn't grasp on to. I made my way downstairs when I noticed Hover was with his new client Sir Dales. I quickly try to escape them without trying to draw attention. Dales,... he scares me, no matter what he did for me yesterday, there was something not right about him.

"Hope you had a good night's rest, Mrs. Augustine," Dales commented. I turned around to find him smirking at me. "Sir Clarkson has been telling me about your late husband, David Augustine. In fact, I think I might have known him." Dales adds on. I stare at him in confusion. My husband never mentioned of anyone named Dales, but then I didn't know many of the people he worked with.

"That's nice." I quickly replied ready to head to the kitchen. I wanted to know more about my late husband David but not from Dales.

"Mr. Dales why don't I show you around the estate." I heard Hover remark.
