Lindsey felt the hair on the back of his neck, getting a gut feeling. He wandered over to the window, peering out between the curtains.
"What are you doing?"
Lindsey jumped, hearing Stevie's voice behind him. He turned around, seeing her face filled with curiosity.
"Just, looking."
Stevie nodded, picking up Sulamith. "I was going to take her for a walk."
"I'll go with you."
Stevie nodded, knowing it was more of a command on his end then an offer. She was hoping he'd offered though, skittish to even wander outside on her own.
He grabbed her coat, helping her putting it on before sliding his own on. He clipped the chain to Sulamith's collar, handing Stevie the leash.
Lindsey grabbed his gun, making sure it was loaded before sliding it in to the back of his jeans. He made sure he had his cellphone and keys before opening the door for them to go out.
He lead the way in to the elevator, stepping aside so she could enter first, following after her and hitting the ground button.
He stood in silence, glancing around the tiny space.
"You have a lovely voice." Stevie spoke up, breaking the silence.
"I'm sorry?" Lindsey looked at her complexed.
"This morning, when you were in the shower. I heard you singing."
His cheeks turned red, quickly avoiding his gaze. "Oh."
Stevie chuckled, shaking her head. "It's nothing to be embarrassed about. You should sing more often, you're really good."
"Thanks." He shrugged the topic off. The metal doors slid open and he lead the way, opening the front door for her.
Stevie stepped outside, the chilly air nipping at her skin and she shivered. She held Sulamith's leash, letting the tiny dog lead the way as she did her business.
Lindsey kept a tiny distance between the two, keeping an eye on her surroundings.
He still felt that twinge in his gut, being extra cautious.
Lindsey squinted, seeing a black SUV. He noticed it from the one a couple days ago, glancing over at Stevie.
"Ms. Nicks we should go inside."
Stevie looked up over at Lindsey, nodding as she tugged on Sulamith's leash.
His eyes squinted, seeing the window roll down of the SUV as it drove by.
He saw the gun sticking out, shoving Stevie to the ground.
Stevie gasped, feeling his body weight on top of her and the sound of a gun go off. Her heart was racing, paralyzed with fear as she felt Lindsey's body weight pinning her to the ground.
Lindsey glanced up, seeing the car had driven away. He glanced down at Stevie beneath him, his breath catching in his throat. Her hair was spread out around her, her cheeks red from adrenaline and her big brown eyes were looking up at him.
