"They're ruling it out as self defense."

Stevie looked at her assistant in disbelief. "Because that's what it was!"

"Stevie I know that." Karen quickly calmed her down. "It's just standard procedure. They just want to ask a few questions so they can close the case."

Stevie shook her head. "I'm not doing anything until Lindsey's out of here."

She turned her head over her shoulder, glancing she through the window to his room. A small smile graced her lips seeing him sleeping peacefully.

She turned back around, Karen noticing the look in her eyes. "What's going on between you two?"

Stevie's cheeks turned red, shaking her head. "Nothing."

"Mhmm." Karen hummed, not believing her. "It doesn't seem like nothing."

  "He saved my life Karen."

Karen decided to drop it. "Come on, I'll take you back to the hotel."

Stevie shook her head. "I'm staying here."

"Stevie you need to sleep."

   "I'm not leaving him."

Karen nodded in understanding, she wasn't going to fight her on this. "I'll grab you a change of clothes."

  "Thank you."

She ventured back to his room, returning to the chair next to his bedside. Her eyes studied his face, his strong features, the curve of his nose.

His eyes had started to flutter open, Stevie giving him a small smile when they landed on her.

"Hey." She reached for his hand.

"Hey." He coughed, wincing. "Shit."

"Are you ok?"

"My mouth is really dry."

"I'll get you some water." She stood from the chair, Lindsey's hand reaching out for her and stopping her.

"No, stay."

Stevie nodded her head, sinking back in to the chair. His hand held tightly on to hers.

Silence fell between them, her thumb soothing over his palm in circles .

   "Stevie-"

"Lindsey don't. Not right now." She cut him off, shaking her head.

He relented, nodding, a silence falling between them.

Tears stung her eyes, biting down on her lips. He noticed, frowning. "What's wrong?"

Stevie forced a tight lipped smile, shaking her head. Tears rolled down her face, biting the inside of her cheek. "I thought I lost you."

Lindsey gave her a weak smile. "I'm still here Stevie."

She stood up, her hand coming up to caress the side of his face, she bent over, pressing a soft kiss against his lips. She rested her forehead against his, tears rolling down her face. She clenched her eyes shut, crying.
