First impressions

Everyone who came up the stairs seemed to know each other  and were too busy talking excitedly about their holidays to notice two new first years. After half an hour or so the twins lost their anticipation to meet  people and ended up just leaning against the wall tapping their feet on the floor. They thought about going down to meet the other first years but they were worried they too were going to be just as uninviting

"Hi! It's Percy and Amy right?" The skinny figure of Alice came into view and the twins looked up.

"Uh Yeah" Percy stood up slowly.

"Well, I just noticed that you guys looked really bored and lonely over here"

"It's just... everyone on this floor seems to ignore us" Amy sighed.

"I'm sure there are loads of first years down in the house room who would really like to meet some new people, shall I take you down, I could help you set up some board games..."

Tommy watched with a smile on his face as Alice lead the twins down the stairs, he loved how good she was with people, how confident she was. He would never have been able to introduce himself like that; he got so nervous.

Down in the house room there were people everywhere, very few older students though as they got annoyed at the amount of noise the  younger students were making. First years sat nervously in corners, whispering to friends they had met before coming to Rovesier, second and third years ran around, jumping on beanbags, laughing and shouting.

"It does get a bit crazy in here but it great if you want to mingle with different years" Alice spotted Alex and their group of friends and waved.

"I think I might introduce myself to that girl over there" Amy pointed to a fiery ginger haired girl who sat in the corner, twirling her thumbs and watching the activities of the house room. She looked rather lonely and Amy knew it would definitely brighten her day if someone came and talked to her when she was feeling excluded.

"I'm sure she'll appreciate that, you gonna go Percy?" Asked Alice.

"Well I think ... I think I might try to say hello to those boys over there" he nervously bit his lip.

"Well good luck you two, I'll be over there with my group if you need" she pointed towards Tommy Mavres, Fred, Alex and Freros.

Percy was hesitant at first but managed to pluck up the courage to go and talk to the group of first year boys.

"Hey, sorry excuse me, I think I left my jumper down here" he pretended to look on the sofa, behind some pillows.

"Were you  here really early then?" one of the boys from the group asked, he was tall and broad shouldered, a wave of nerves passed over Percy as the boy was quite intimidating staring at Percy with his questioning green eyes, "cos we were some of the first in"

"Uh... yeah I arrived yesterday" Percy smiled, trying to look friendly.

"Wow, didn't know we were allowed  to arrive that early"

"I don't think you were but I came from France...some people from the school escorted me" the other two boys still hadn't spoken yet and Percy gulped.

"Cool... I'm Azuri by the way and this is Zac and Rontayz"

"Tayz for short" a tanned boy with coffee coloured hair put out his hand to shake, which Percy confidently took. The third boy was still standing behind the other two, smiling shyly and ruffling his black mop of curls.

"I'm Percy"

"Well nice to meet you, say... do you know if there is anything we can do?"Tayz Asked.

"Well, I do know how to get onto the fields" excitement filled him.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" Azuri clapped his hands.

"Are you guys sure we can do this?" Zac spoke up.

"Yeah school hasn't even started yet Zac, come on lets have a bit of fun" Tayz dragged him after Percy as he lead the Three boys through the entrance tapestry.

Meanwhile Amy had gone of to try and talk to the lonely girl. She sat down on the chair next to her sighing, unsure on how to start a conversation.

"It's so crazy in here" the girl looked at Amy in surprise, not expecting someone to talk to her.

"Yeah, looks fun though" the girl said in a small voice.

"A girl in second year told me there are some really cool board games we can play, do you want to?"

"Sure, Thanks" the girl smiled, glad for the company.

"I'm Amy by the way"

"Isatia, but call me izzy"

"Nice to meet you... right I'm just going to ask the second year for the board game, I'll be back in a sec" Amy smiled reassuring Izzy she was coming back.

Amy ran over to Alice who was laughing at two other boys in the group as they wrestled each other on the floor.

"Hey Alice can you get one of the board games?" Amy tapped her on the shoulder.

"Yeah, of course... I'll teach it to you as-well"

"Thanks I'll be over there with Izzy"

"Oh cool, glad you've made a friend" Alice smiled then quickly ran to the stairs at the back of the house room.

Amy seated herself next to Izzy again, she looked very lost in thought.

"Are you alright?" Amy asked.

"Yeah I'm ok... I just met this elf Amber on the bus that I took here and I was hoping she'd be in the same house as me, but I guess not" Izzy looked sadly at the floor.

"There's still hope yet, the prefect said they keep coming in even around dinner time" Amy smiled,"I've never met an elf before, I didn't even know this existed until a couple of days ago"

"Wow, that must have been a surprise" Izzy laughed.

"I thought I was dreaming"

"Hey You two" Alice placed a metal box in front of them on the coffee table, " Now it may be complicated at first but once you have the hang of the controls it's really fun" Alice opened the box to review a thick, shiny, black board with silver buttons along each side. She then connected two mini boards to each side and switched it on and it lit up instantly.

"Cool" Amy breathed.

"Right this is Elf wars, it's a game where you have to battle each person with a platoon of elves, you also have a pile of digital cards which you can use throughout the game and they will destroy you or level you up" Alice started pressing buttons on the side to set the game up.

"I think it's better if you explain it as we go along" Amy said.

"Yeah let's just get started" Alice rubbed her hands together.
