It took several minutes before Amy got used to the dark and could vaguely see anything. All that while her heart had been on adrenaline as she had no clue what had happened and was on the virge of panic, ready to scream for help. Though as soon as her vision picked up other floating beds she thought better of making the racket. Dreaming wasn't out of the question though.
It took several minutes more for her to calm herself from the episode and even more so to settle under the covers. Sleep came easily thankfully and she drifted away into her mind.
"Amy...Amy!"
Amy slowly brought her head up to rest on the metal side bar of the top bunk, her eyelids still heavy from sleep.
"Sorry, you don't have to wake up since it's Sunday, I just thought I'd wake you in case you wanted to be woken" Percy was already dressed in some of the school clothes, holding a pile of books in his hands. He loved reading and there was no doubt he would finish the whole of the blue dormitory book case by the end of the next week.
"It's alright perc" Amy stretched, " give me a minute and we'll go to the library, or something"
"Breakfast first though"
"I almost forgot about breakfast" Amy rubbed her hands over her face and clambered down the ladder.
"You look exhausted" he remarked, " you sure you didn't sneak off to a party without me last night?"
Amy laughed, "no" she shook her head still smiling.
"Really?" He raised an eyebrow.
"It's just, we haven't moved anywhere since we were five and I found it hard to sleep last night" Amy confessed, there was some truth to it, but she didn't feel like talking about the big black space of floating beds until she knew she wasn't dreaming.
Breakfast that morning was a lot more crazy than the previous day due to the obvious; there was a lot more people. Whenever the two tried to talk, their voices were drowned with everyone else's and the twins decided it was probably best if they finished off their breakfast quickly and made their way to the library, where they could hopefully hear more than their own voices.
Amy watched Percy's face light up in wonder in entering the vast library and smiled.
"This" he breathed, "is something out of a dream" he almost toppled over from looking up to the ceiling of carved wooden beams.
Amy laughed, "so which corner are you gonna pitch up your temporary home?"
Percy elbowed her, but there was obvious amusement behind his scowl, "tell me about yesterday"
Amy glanced around before dragging him along the rows to the blank space of wall, "so" she focused her thoughts, " yesterday, I found myself in here and there were sheets all over the floor, one got stuck to my shoe so I leant against the wall to take it off... and I fell straight through into a room with shiny stones, a portrait and a chained up book"
Percy frowned, "Where was this?"
"Just through this bare patch of wall" she pointed.
Percy's features wrinkled into confusion, as he looked between Amy and the wall, "there's a bookshelf there" he said, "no wall"
"Well...I can definitely see no bookshelf" Amy shared Percy's confusion, but for the opposite reason, "just watch"
Her heart raced; she would look so stupid if she just walked into that wall. Then again Percy could see a bookshelf and she couldn't, so she decided she wasn't possibly, going that mad. Amy closed her eyes and walked forwards. She didn't hit anything and when her eyes opened, she was in the the dim, candle lit room, everything like the day before. She glanced over at the blue stone, faintly glowing on its velvet pillow. Amy could feel the thrum of magic pulsing out from it. She shivered and pinched herself just in case. She definitely wasn't dreaming.
Percy stood staring at the perfectly normal bookcase in disbelief. Amy had completely disappeared. He had blinked and she was gone.
After a moments hesitation, he walked towards the case and pressed his hand to the binds of the books. Solid. There was no way he was getting through that. Some part of him wandered why he wasn't able to see this secret room; him and Amy were twins, they usually did the same things. He hoped it was only to do with how magic matured in girls compared to boys, or something equally as stupid and he had nothing to worry about. It still didn't stop the ache of jealousy that built up in his chest.
Suddenly, Amy appeared once more, almost walking straight into Percy because of how close he was standing, but managed to dodge to the side.
"I don't understand" Percy said after a stale silence.
"I don't anymore than you Perc" she said, noticing the distance in his voice, it wasn't hard for her to tell that he was jealous, "come on, I know you've got that pile of books you want to read, we'll come back to this when we know a bit more about our magical side"
"Yeah" Percy mumbled.
Amy sighed, "I hate it when you're like this Percy and you know I hate when things are different... if I could make it so you could see this room I would" Amy gave him a hug.
"I know" Percy replied, " I'm just being stupid"
" it's not stupid to be annoyed" Amy squeezed tighter, " it would be the same the other way around"
"Yeah I suppose"
"Come on then, we'll go and sit on those massive fluffy beanbags that were at the front of the library"
"Really? Theres big beanbags, how big?"
" massive, come on" Amy raced down the end of the row. Percy looked at the shelf again, squeezing his eyes shut and imagining a blank wall. To his dismay, the bookcase was still there and he sighed deeply before following after Amy.
