"What happened?" Percy questioned Amy as soon as they were out of earshot of the others.
She shook her head glancing around, "I can't even talk about it here" she muttered nervously, " you'll have to wait 'till we're in the dorm and positive no one is eavesdropping"
"I'm worried now" he raised an eyebrow, "this sounds serious"
Amy gave him a confirming worried look before rushing up to the other boys who had gained a swift pace; eager to find out who they were sharing a dormitory with.
The lounge was abuzz with noise as the first year Rivinells gathered in anticipation. Amy spotted Amber and Isatia over on one couch joined by a couple of other girls, most likely talking about shopping or something equally as boring. She was glad she backed out if that one because, if there was one thing she hated, it was shopping and some of the girls weird obsessions with boy singers and bands. She didn't understand it half the time. Luckily in France none of the girls at her school had invited her for a trip to the shops.
"Do you think we should stay or go straight up?" Percy asked, "since we know our dorm number and all"
"I dunno, we might not have been told some important piece of information" Amy said lowly, "and I don't know about you but I'd rather not get into an embarrassing situation on my first day"
"You guys!" Tayz Shouted over the throng, "come sit here!"
The twins exchanged looks of agreement before joining the boys on the huddle of beanbags. All three of them looked pretty nervous, Zac the most as he anxiously watched the prefect who was preparing everything at the front, his hands in a tight knot.
"It'll be alright Zac" Azuri patted his arm comfortingly, "even if you're put in a dorm with some other girl, you know we'll sneak you into one of our dorms"
"Yeah" Percy said, "If it comes to the worst you could always come into ours"
"Thanks" he said with a slight smile, but it was clear he was still writhing with nerves.
"Alright, quiet up you lot!" The prefect stood up, "or this will take all night!"
It didn't take long for the room to become silent though, as the first years were far too interested in what the prefect was going to say to carry on their conversations.
"Right" she took a deep breath, trying to control her nerves, "welcome to Rovesier and Rivinell house where you will be spending the next five years until you move to upper six accommodation, there's a few things I need to address before I read out dorm pairings and you can ask any questions you have at the end" she cleared her throat and glanced down at her notes, "I'm Naomi, your student head of house and these are the other prefects Eryn, Ava, Tyler and Ollie" she gestured the other fifth years lounged along the front, "if you need help for any particular reason, you can come to any of us... now as you probably expect there are some clear rules that relate to the dorms and house rooms as-well as the rest of the school. Firstly, there is to be no kind of combat outside of lessons anywhere and weapons should not be taken into the house room or dormitories" she read from her list, "use of magic is allowed, but shouldn't be used to inflict any harm and you shouldn't attempt anything unpracticed... this will mainly be for fifth year but many spirits develop powers early, just so you're aware, curfew in winter is ten and in summer eleven, this is only for being in the corridors and you can stay up however long you like in here or up in your dorms. though it is recommended you don't stay up too late" she smiled knowingly at the intrigued crowd, " now, you're all probably wondering what's going to happen on your first day on Monday... and it's totally nothing to worry about, it may seem all big and scary but it really isn't and you'll get used to it in no time at all. Anyway, you'll get your timetables in the morning and feel free to ask any of the older students for directions as I'm sure they'll help, teachers will introduce you to the subjects and there may be a couple of pieces of homework here and there but nothing too difficult" she looked at the other prefects, "have I missed anything?"
"Breakfast is from six 'till eight" added on Ollie.
"Yeah, the other meal timings will be on your timetable... oh and house meeting are once a month. Right, I'll read out dorm pairings and then I'll answer questions" Naomi inscrumpled a long list and began, "Talia Black and Alyx Clint" she read, "room forty four, floor one"
A tall, pretty girl, with sleek black hair stood up along with a pale dark haired boy sporting a face of freckles. They smiled at each other nervously before collecting up backpacks of personal belonging and heading up the stone stairs at the back of the room.
"Rontayz Davis and Amelia Fadetcha" Tayz sighed as he heard his name called, "room twenty one, floor one"
"See you then" he waved to us before heading up with the skinny, brown haired girl called Amelia.
Several names later it finally got to 'T' in the alphabet and Zac held his breath, awaiting his fate.
"Zachary Talys and Ryan Tambith, room thirteen, floor one"
Zac bit his lip nervously as he watched the small blonde haired boy get up from the other side of the room.
"It'll be alright" Azuri assured Zac with a pat on the back. Confidently as he could, he made his way to the stairs.
"Isatia Varysia And Azuri Vichaenis" Naomi called, " room thirty, floor one"
Azuri bounded up and sent a flashing grin in Izzy's direction who looked away in annoyance. One, because of him, two, because she wasn't with Amber.
Amy and Percy followed straight after as there was no real need for them to stay for the rest of the name calling. There was only about four first years left anyway.
"What time is it?" Percy yawned.
"When have I ever owned a watch?" Amy laughed.
"Good point" he smiled, "you can tell how tired I am, I mean, as much as I know you want to party all night, I think we should get to bed early"
"Yeah cos I'm totally the crazy one" she gave him a sideways grin which earned her an elbow in the arm.
Amy was, in truth, very tired herself, so she didn't argue with having to go to bed early; she needed as much energy as possible for the first day of lessons. So without so much of a word exchanged between the two, pjs were on and lights were off within fifteen minutes. However, even though the heaviness of her lids told her that she should sleep, Amy lay awake in the dark. She didn't know how long she lay there staring into the abyss but one thought kept her from falling into the weightlessness of deep slumber. The secret room and the stones. In his attempt to get into bed quickly, Percy had forgotten to interrogate her on her experience, but she certainly hadn't forgotten about it at all. She was thinking on showing him the room, a voice was warning her against it, but she never kept anything from him. Her twin.
She watched in surprise as out of nowhere a dim light encased her bed and with one shaking hand she reached out towards it. Her hand met a cold, hard surface. Suddenly the bed jerked backwards as it it passed through the back wall and into the vacuum of black beyond.
