A serious talk

Tommy and Alice came down late to breakfast. It had been a long night, talking about how they would explain the prophecy and everything to the twins—what they would reveal and what they wouldn't.

They had hoped it would be easy to find the two and they'd be at breakfast, however, the Rivinell bench was sparsely occupied and Amy and Percy were not there.

"There's only a few places they'd know how to find, right?" Tommy asked, lowering himself down on the bench.

"Yeah, unless they went for a blind wonder and got lost"

"I hope not" Tommy sighed, "though if all else fails, we just have to be early for lunch and wait for them to appear"

"Good point" Alice nodded, "that's why you're the clever one"

Tommy blushed, "not really, it's just logic"

"It's just logic" Alice mimicked rolling her eyes, "Oh, don't be so modest"

After breakfast, having been shooed out by one of the grumpy caretakers, the friends made their way to the library. It was the most logical place, Alice had teased Tommy.

Amy shoved the third book she had picked up, back into the bookcase. She hadn't managed to get into a single one; the room seemed to be bothering her too much. Percy, on the other hand, had been through three books and hadn't said a word since earlier. This lead to Amy wandering around, looking for anything remotely more interesting. She doubted there was a fantasy section. It was all fantasy really, but fact at the same time.Amy shook her head—the madness that had been the past few days. Her whole world had been changed. She had known she was special in some way; not every eleven year old could breath underwater, but she would never have thought there was a whole world behind her power, specifically like the one she was now in.

"Hello Amy"

Amy jumped, having been too lost in thought to realise someone had approached her. She turned around to see Alice and just behind, Tommy.

"Hi" Amy looked at them in question.

"Where's Percy?" Alice asked looking around.

"Just over on the beanbags, reading" Amy replied.

"Already?" She grinned.

"Yeah, he really loves books, any book he can get his hands on" Amy said, suspicious to what the two wanted.

"Well, me and Tommy were just wandering if we could have a chat with you and Percy" Alice glanced around, "it's a very serious talk, that can't be left till later"

"Um..." Amy thought on it, "well how long is it gonna take?"

"However long it does, but it's really important that we tell you this stuff" Alice insisted, "it could be important enough to be a matter of life and death"

Amy looked up eyes wide, "serious?"

"Yes"

"I'll...l'll go get Percy"

It took some persuasion to get Percy to come out of his books, but when he saw the seriousness in his twins eyes, he didn't hesitate. The two were lead back to the Rivinell common room and taken to Tommy and Alice's dorm, where the talking dog, Pippin, was waiting.

"Is the door locked?" She asked, all kindness from the first day gone.

"Yep" Tommy replied, the only one, surprisingly, who was fairly laid back. This calmed Amy a bit but she still had to grasp onto Percy's hand to keep down her nerves. This had to be something really serious by the look of Alice and Pippin.

"Now" Pippin began, "none of this—not one word, can be uttered outside this room. You're are bound to secrecy. If any of this gets out it won't be just you two who will be in trouble"

Amy and Percy exchanged looks, gripping each others hands tighter.

"I won't repeat a thing" Amy said solemnly.

"My mouth is sealed" Percy nodded.

"Good" Pippin said, "now some of these things you'll have no idea about and I'll try my best to explain, but please ask questions at the end"

The twins nodded and Pippin began.

She talked about what had happened the previous year and what happened with Sparky and Maria and the darkness, then went on to Helen, how she died and what her suspicions were about the prophecy and that the Dark spirit wanted to kill the ones that it was talking about. The twins had no idea what their involvement in it was but listened all the same, Amy even shed a tear as Pippin told them how Hellen had looked after her and at the friend she'd lost.

"What is this prophecy?" Percy asked once Pippin had finished.

Pippin looked up at Alice who took a folded up piece of paper out of her pocket and laid it out flat on the floor before the twins.

ENDING PROPHECY

Two spirits of rare
Who hide growing power from all
One born 2003 in winter
One born 2002 in fall
Together will defeat the darkness
Though one may die
To a weapon the dark will harness
But a decision stops both to fade
As they may live on to see light
When hell takes what it made
Against the black of night
Four stones will shine
As all becomes one
And the walker you will find
If all hope is gone.

"I don't get why we are involved" Amy said after reading the prophecy twice, "I mean, me and Percy aren't exactly rare are we? And both of us have the same birthday"

"Elemental spirits are one of there rarer, older types of spirits" Alice said, "when is your birthday?"

"December 1st" Percy replied, " but that still doesn't really make it us, I'm sure there's others, I mean we aren't even from this country"

Alice raised an eyebrow, " then how did two eleven year olds teach themselves how to speak fluent English?"

Amy and Percy didn't reply.

"My guess, and there is all possibility you aren't anything to do with this, yes, but my guess is that you're parents moved you to France to protect you" Pippin said, "To protect you from getting into the wrong hands"

Amy had never let the day she left cross her mind for years. She had hoped it would become blurred and unrecognisable if she left it packed in a box at the back of her mind. She hadn't even asked if Percy was still haunted by it, afraid to speak of it.

"Our parents were killed on accident whilst we were on holiday there" Was all Amy said, "so we never left"

It was clear Pippin didn't believe the lie, but she didn't say anything else on the subject of the past, " we just felt we needed to warn you about Sparky and Maria, it doesn't matter to them whether it's certain you are the ones on the prophecy, if you are suspected to be...I'm afraid to even think what they might do"

A shiver ran down Amy's spine as she forced the memories back. She wouldn't face it today, it would be long time till she could, maybe she would never, but she wouldn't think on it today.
