Zuer woke and sat up, yawning, and looked around the room for me. His eyes widened as he saw the room was empty and the door was ajar.
He growled, jumping out of the bed. Grabbing his jacket, he put it on as he angrily went out the door to find me. “She said she wouldn’t...” He ran down the hallway, feeling hurt. He checked just about everywhere in the castle before, with a sigh, opening the door to the inner courtyard and stepping outside into the grass. “She’s probably long gone...” He looked around the courtyard and his eyes suddenly widened.
I was lying in the grass with my hands behind my head, eyes closed as the noon sun warmed me. The sound of footsteps made me open my eyes and Zuer’s shadow cast itself over my face as he stood beside me.
“I thought you had left...” he said, sounding relieved.
I sat up, shaking my head. “No. I told you I wouldn’t, didn’t I?”
He smiled a little. “Yeah, I suppose you did.”
I padded the grass beside me. “Come on and sit down with me. It’s really nice out here.”
“Alright.” The big otter sat down beside me and gave me a curious look. “How come you came out here?”
“Mauriz brought me out here and had me fight the patrol cat, Kore.”
Zuer’s eyes widened. “Why would he do that? Are you okay?”
I laughed. “Yes, I’m fine. Mauriz just wanted to know how I have always been able to get away from the Patrol.” I looked up at him with a smile. “Kore really got beat up.”
“Hmhm...I’m not surprised.” Zuer said with a crooked grin.
“Hey hey hey....wait. Shouldn’t you be sleeping?” I suddenly remembered why he still looked so tired.
“Ah...probably. But when I woke up and saw that you’d gone I was worried.” He shrugged, looking down at me with his deep brown eyes.
I didn’t say anything until I was finally able to look away from him. “Well, you need to go back to sleep. I know you’re tired. And I don’t want you falling asleep while you’re on duty.” I grinned at him teasingly.
“Okay boss.” he said with a chuckle. “I’ll go to sleep. But I’m not going back to your room.” He layed down in the grass, closing his eyes. “Out here is good.”
I layed beside him, resting my head comfortably on his arm. “Sounds like a plan to me.”
We stayed there for a moment or two before Zuer sat up for a second. “Ugh....sorry, it’s hot. Let me take my jacket off.” He threw his jacket to the side and lay on the grass again.
I put my head on his arm again and closed my eyes, the sun’s warmth quickly making me and Zuer feel drowsy. We fell asleep almost at the same time.
