Zuer stood outside the door for what seemed like hours in the silence before he heard someone coming down the hallway. His hand went to his gun, but he relaxed when he saw it was Mauriz coming around the corner. “Hey Mauriz.” Zuer said quietly.

The wolf nodded. “Hey Zuer. Are you doing alright?”

“Yeah, I’m fine. The silence is just wearing on me.”

Mauriz gave him a sympathetic look. “You know, I’m sure you don’t have to guard her any more. I don’t think she’ll leave.”

Zuer shook his head. “We know the patrol can easily get in the castle. Right now I’m doing it to protect her, not keep her from leaving. I know she won’t.”

“Well, if you ever need a break, tell me, and I can take your place for a while.” Mauriz smiled kindly and began to walk away.

Zuer watched him for a moment, hesitating. “ Uh...wait a minute.”

The wolf stopped. “Yes?”

Zuer rubbed his neck, his brown eyes slightly troubled. “What do you do when you like someone...and you don’t know how to say it...or how to tell her?” He chuckled, shaking his head at himself.

Mauriz half smiled and walked back to the otter. “Does she like you as well?”

Zuer shrugged. “I can’t really tell. She’s kind of confusing.”

“Well, you could always just ask her out and get the hard part over with.”

Zuer’s brown eyes widened. “What? No!”

“Why not?” Mauriz laughed. “The worst thing she can say is no.”

“Exactly.”

Mauriz chuckled. “Well, if you’re too scared to try that, then just do small things. Like maybe a note, or a flower or something.”

Zuer nodded. “That sounds safer...”

The wolf shook his head, laughing quietly. “Well, have a good night. I’m going to go back to my room.”

“Thanks.”

“No problem.”
