Chapter 16: Shining Star ahead

Sitting in the same café where we were standing one year ago, I was tempted to order the same drink I ordered back then. I stopped at the last second with my mouth open in front of the bartender, and thought "What am I doing? I'm here to get over him, not relieve it all…" So I order lemonade instead.

I caught a glimpse of the bartender's retreating back before I began opening the notebook to the last written page.

Kevin reluctantly agreed to talk with my aunt before we went to a nearby cafe. I sighed in relief when my aunt released us without eating him alive. She only asked like three questions about his ancestry and seized him from head to toe after shaking his hand.

"What do you want to drink?"

I looked over the menu and, raising my eyes to his smiling face, and I answered: "Elderflower juice."

"Really? That's an interested choice." He quirked his eyebrows.

"What can I say, I like unusual things." I shrugged.

After finishing our drink, we went for a walk in the park. During our short walk, he held my hand and once in a while we stole a few glances at each other. Not once did we pass a person on the street without making it turn the head or look at us curiously.

"Kevin, why is everyone staring at us?" I craned my neck to look up at him. He was much taller than I, measuring 6,2 feet (190 cm) compared to my 4,9 feet (150 cm).

"It must be because of the height difference."

"Oh well, I don't care! Do you?"

"I don't. Their stares bothers me a little, but I don't care. I most certainly don't like you any less because of the difference."

Smiling in content, we sat on a bench under a pine tree. No more stairs this time.

"Here's your lemonade." The bartender said placing my cold drink in front of me, a little too close to the notebook.

I put the pen down and reached for my wallet. After handing him the money, I reached for the glass and took a small sip. The bitter taste of lemon lingers on my tongue and I relinquish to it as the ultimate cure to my keviness disease. I had to get rid of the taste that sweet memory created. It was the best day of my life after all. What came after, was the downfall.

Cuddling by his side, I let the warmth of his body envelope me. His hand stroke my back as we sat in a comfortable silence. Suddenly, he pulled back and reached into the pocket of his jacket. I looked curiously at the little yellow object he extracted.

"This is for you."

I reached to grab the yellow object from his extended hand and gasped in surprise.

"It's a star!" I exclaimed not believing my eyes.

His smile was ultra large as he drank in my astonishment.

"Yes. You wrote in that poem that the Angel didn't gave you the star. I wanted to change that."

The touch of the plush yellow star was soft. It wasn't too big or too small, just enough to fit my palm. Two big blue eyes and a smiling red mouth were engraved on one side of it. If squeezed, the star makes a squeaking sound, a fact that made me giggle like a little kid.
