Chapter 15: A moment of eternity

Most people don't realize that the sun is in fact a star, similar to the stars we see at night, only much closer. Yeah, I might be in possession of a book dedicated only to this particularly bright star, but that is not how I see it today.

Today the sun is my wake-up call, my guiding light, and I don't care how many black spots it has.

This morning, the warm rays of sun penetrated the transparent fabric of the curtains, waking me up for another day at the mountain resort. Smiling brightly, I stretched my arms upwards. Finally, the clouds are gone and I can go walk down the Valley of the Castle, to relieve the memory of me and Kevin one last time.

My feet touch the ground with a degree of hesitation as I made my way to the place where we first met.  I glanced over the long path before I took a turn to the right and sat down on the stairs. After a minute of doing nothing, I pulled the notebook out of my bag and began writing, shutting down the shrill of nature.

His lips lingered on mine, unmoving, for a full minute or two. During this time, I felt the ground being swept from my feet. It was exactly like the kiss from my dream. Warm, moist lips sending an electrifying current all over me. When he pulled away, our foreheads connected and we stood like that some more. The world was spinning and I tried to understand what was going on.

And then, he spoke. "I'm going to stay another two hours. If you want me to."

"I... I do. But what about your ride back?"

"The last bus is at eight o'clock."

"Alright."

We went to sit down on stairs again, this time closer to where my aunt and uncle lived. I was still in shock and didn't even realized when and how we got there from the bus station.

He pulled me up in his embrace and began playing with my fingers. None of us said anything for a good while but I couldn't take it anymore.

"Why?" The single word escaped my lips and I lifted from gaze from our fingers to his face.

"Why what?"

"Why did you kiss me?"

Another moment of silence passed.

He sighed a few times, his mouth opening and closing, before he finally answered.

"When you said you can die happy, you practically confirmed me something I suspected for a while. You like me more than as a friend." He smiled and I blushed, not able to deny that.

"Then, I thought I could at least hold your hand before we part ways. But when the moment of goodbye really came, I could not hold it in anymore. The thing is...Pheobe, I like you too."

I stared at him wide eyed, not daring to believe what I just heard. The guy I liked had the same feeling towards me? Me, the girl no one ever liked because I wear these horrible glasses, I am a little too curvy and my hair is a mess of unruly curls that some compare to a broom? It really was hard to believe.  Plus, this isn't some short summer romance like with Luke. This is Kevin, the guy I knew for about two years and I really really like.

My fear of him actually making fun of me crumbled the moment he took my glasses off and kissed me again.

I responded to his kiss, our lips moving synchronous. And I melted right there and then.
