Lilys pov
Everyone gathered around while Madeye explained our how our plans we developing and the extent at which the attacks are getting to. Although we are doing everything we can, Voldemort is getting more powerful every day and gaining more and more allies. After nearly two months of work we scarily not getting anywhere, each time we have tried to go up against his forces directly in the last 2 weeks or gain more information we have been intercepted almost automatically making what Madeye says next more conceivable than i think anyone wants to admit. "A traitor" James repeats, his brown furrowing at the word. "that right, we have a snake within our midst Mr. Potter that's plotting against us with the dark lord and i would advise you to keep your eyes peeled for who it might be" he says, eyeing the two of us suspiciously before stalking of out of the room and leaving us in the chattering and arguing chaos that our meeting often became. "i traitor" James says again "Surely no one here could" he cuts himself off as we sit at the far side of the room watching everyone within the order in front of us, some long-term friends and trusted alliances, some unknown until just a few weeks ago, some missing altogether and a select few near to complete strangers. "but that's just it....there must be someone..someone here has gone against us" i say in a hushed tone motioning with my head to the crowd. "i guess the question now is, who?" he signs watching them intently.
We arrived back home with Sirius and sat down in the kitchen to discuss the latest revelation. "I just can't believe that someone would do that," James says frowning. "Well one of them has" Sirius spits. "Someone has betrayed us all and whatever coward it is that has given in to that man i'd like to know so that i can" "Sirius you know it might be someone we know," i say interrupting him and gaining a wince. "You're saying you think its someone we're friends with?! you mean like me, Moony, Mar or maybe even wormtail or the newlyweds. You seriously think it could be someone like Hagrid or Dumbledore, someone we trust completely? no way its one of the others, one we didn't know coming into this" he states shaking his head at my suggestion. "I guess you're right, i didn't really think it was one of us....i guess i was just trying to say that everyone there is trusted by Dumbledore, everyone there is supposed to be a good person whos putting everything they have into this....how are we supposed to pick out one so easily to be the one that's betrayed us" i ask placing a mug down in front of him and taking my seat again. "i don't think it's going to be that easy". "Maybe its not going to be, but we cant turn against everyone we know, were not even sure yet" James states taking a sip of his coffee. "Yeah i guess so"
When James's parents arrive home with the news that Mrs. Potter is no longer fit to work according to the ministry we stop talking about the mole and settle down back into as normal a family life as we can muster. She had hoped to be able to keep working for as long as possible and while the rest of us might have expected it i don't think she was quite so soon. "Well if im not allowed there then i don't know what im expected to do all day, who knows when i'll be to ill to well......" she pauses and takes a small breath, something that she had been accustomed to doing whenever the subject of when she will no longer be able to function efficiently for herself comes up. "I don't exactly want to spend my time sitting around here doing nothing" she sighs looking down at Natalie who is nestled in her lap purring away. "Well i may be able to solve that problem" her husband smiles taking her hand and getting her to stand up. "What is it?" she asks laughing slightly at him. "You'll see" he grins leading her out of the room. "don't suppose you know what that's about, do you?" Sirius questions leaning back on his chair. "No idea, she looks happy though" James smiles thoughtfully as he watches the doorway they disappeared out of a couple seconds ago. i place my hand on his shoulder and squeeze lightly in a small yet reassuring gesture. We don't see them for the rest of the night until dinner and after that is over we all collect in the front room and begin sharing stories about each other.
"remember when those two came in absolutely sopping wet from the garden the day after Marlene's birthday" Mr. Potter laughs gesturing towards me and James and causing us all to join in his laughter at the memory. "I'll have you know we slipped, isn't that right lil" James smirks at me. "yes, of course, we slipped" i tease him poking him in the ribs. he doesn't like to discuss the fact that i was able to push him in even if he did end up taking me with him into the pond. "sure you did son" he chuckles nodding in our direction.
We stay up long into the night and soon it is time to go to sleep, with just a few hours left before we have to be up once more James, Sirius and i hastily make our way up to bed splitting off into our own rooms, well, me and James in his and Sirius in his own and fall almost straight to sleep. Almost. As i lay in the peaceful basket of James's arms i can't help but think back to what Madeye said. Surely sirius is right, it just can't be someone we're friends with. It just can't.
