Chapter 3: the surprise house guest
"Jace, will you come here please?" My father called to someone.
Maggie and I exchanged confused looks.
A boy walked out of the kitchen and my heart just about stopped.
"This is Jace, he's 19, in fact he's only one year older than you Annie."
I gave my step-dad an awkward smile.
"Well go on and introduce yourselves" my mother said frowning.
"Hi, I'm Maggie, 15 years old." My sister said smiling.
"Uh... Hi, I'm Annie... 18 years old." I said almost sweating.
As soon as our eyes met I just about fell over.
"Jace is staying with us because his father, a good friend of mine, is very sick." My dad explained.
I almost didn't hear my father because I was too focused on Jace's features.
His light blond hair, his dark blue, almost green eyes.
"Annie...Annie!" My father shouted as if I missed something he said.
"Wh...what?" I asked feeling distant.
"I asked you to take Jace to the guest room" my father repeated.
There was a silence that I did not approve.
I don't know why I always get in the middle of awkward silences!
"I should go study for my test" Maggie said as she walked up the stairs.
"This way" I said to Jace.
He followed me up the stairs and to the left.
I opened the door revealing a blue bed with dark blue wallpaper.
"So... This is your room" I said trying to avoid another awkward silence.
"Thank you" he kindly said.
"No problem" I said walking towards the door.
"Oh and uh Annie... Isn't it?" He asked.
He knows my name... Oh yeah, I told him what it was, I thought to my self.
"Yes?" I asked smiling.
"Goodnight" he said showing me his teeth through a smile.
"Night" I said and finally exited his room.
I knocked on my sister's door, she opened it and let me in.
"You don't really have a test, do you?" I asked.
"Nope, that was so awkward when no one was talking!" She said.
"I know right" I smiled.
She suddenly wore a strange smile.
"You two are so perfect for each other!" She yelled.
She covered her mouth with both of her hands once she realized she had yelled it.
My eyes got wide as I felt my face turn red with embarrassment.
I opened the door to make sure Jace didn't hear what Maggie had just said.
Luckily there was no one in sight.
"That was close" I said staring at Maggie.
"It's true, you two are perfect for each other" she whispered.
"Goodnight silly Maggie."
"Goodnight adorable Annie" she giggled.
I walked out of her room and suddenly got knocked to the ground.
"I'm so sorry" Jace said offering his hand to help me up.
"It's fine" I said grabbing his hand.
He pulled me up and I wobbled dizzily but Jace caught me with his other hand just before I hit the ground.
"Wow, your like a superhero" I said, giggling like Maggie did just moments ago.
"Yeah I guess I am" he said letting go of my hand.
"Goodnight...again" I smiled.
"goodnight" he said sounding tired.
I fell asleep once my head hit the pillow.
