Chapter 2: the silver bullet

The next morning I woke up covered with confetti.

I sat up and saw a note taped to my opened door.

I slipped my fuzzy socks on and scooted over to the door.

The note read: Happy birthday sweet heart! Come downstairs for your present.

I walked downstairs feeling like a little girl on Christmas morning.

My jaw dropped to the ground once I saw it...

A silver Corvette! It was polished like a brand new bullet.

I ran to my mom and hugged her. "Thank you!" I shouted louder than expected.

Giving her no time to respond I turned to my step-dad and gave him a great big bear hug.

"Your welcome sweetheart, do you like it?" My step-dad asked smiling from cheek to cheek.

"Can I take it for a spin?" I asked feeling like that question should be in a movie.

"Only if Maggie can come" Mom responded.

I looked at my new silver Corvette and saw Maggie leaning against it.

"You up for some ice cream Maggie?" I asked already knowing the answer.

"Yes please!" She giggled.

Over the years me and Maggie had grown even closer than my mom and I had by far.

I had always known she was right by my side when ever I got my self into trouble.

She knew whenever a bully was around that I'd be right by her side.

"Be back before dark" my mother called to us hinting we could pick up some dinner.

I waved to my mom and dad. Then sat down in the leather seat.

I put my hand over where the keys should be.

I saw my puzzled reaction in the mirror.

"I almost forgot..." My step-dad said handing me the keys.

"Thanks dad" I said one more time before exiting the driveway.

I wondered to myself why it sounded right to call him dad.

"You like it? I asked Maggie.

"It's super cool, and look! There's a car phone!" She exclaimed.

I gazed at the car phone and smiled.

"Is it alright with you if I call Collie?" I asked Maggie.

Collie is my nickname for my best friend Colleen.

We had been best friends ever since Third Grade.

"Sure, I don't mind" she said smiling.

So I dialed her number on the car phone.

Colleen: Hello?

Me: Hey Collie

Colleen: Hey Girl!

Maggie: Hi Colleen

Colleen: Hey there Princess

Maggie tried to hide her smile but I could still tell it existed.

"Do you mind if Collie comes with us for ice cream?" I whispered to Maggie.

Maggie just shook her head telling me she didn't mind.
