Chapter ten: The Last Breath

Where were we headed? A hospital? A police station? I had no clue.

"I'm gonna get you home to your family" Thomas said, gasping for breath.

He had been running all of this time to get me back to my family... That's the caring Thomas I knew and loved.

After about fifteen more minutes of running, I recognized my front door.

"We're here... Hunter, stay behind us" Thomas said as he rang the doorbell.

The door slid open just a bit and a little voice asked, "who is it?"

"Maggie" I managed to whisper.

The door flung open in a second and Maggie's eyes grew big as she looked up at Thomas, and then at me.

"Mom! Dad!" She screamed.

My mother and father came rushing to the door and looked at Thomas with a frown.

Then they looked at me, in the same relieved way Maggie had.

"Annie?" Maggie asked tearing up.

"Yes, this is Annie" Thomas said in a sad tone.

"Who the heck are you?" My father growled at Thomas, then he frowned at Hunter.

"I'm Thomas, a friend of Annie... She has been hurt very badly and she needs help right away, sir."

My father let Thomas carry me in, then Thomas set me on the couch.

As my family examined my wound, they all started to cry.

Maggie held my hand and sang me a song, while Thomas explained to my parents where I was for the past few months.

This house brought back so many memories, I never thought I would set foot in it again as long as I lived.

My parents seemed very thankful that Thomas had brought me home, but they were also very nervous about my wound.

I heard Hunter barking outside, when I looked into Maggie's eyes, I saw no hope that I would live, instead I saw doubt.

"We've been looking for you ever since that day, I never told mom or dad anything" Maggie whispered in my ear.

I cupped her cheek with my hand and said, "I'm so sorry."

She started to cry and when I looked up at the ceiling, every second it got darker.

"Thomas" I said in a whimper.

My whole family gathered around me, they were all crying streams of regret.

I pulled Thomas closer and looked into his dark eyes, and said...

"I don't want... or need anything... besides... you."
