Atticus's POV//

"Hey Mom?"

"Yeah?"

"Who was your first love?"

I look up from my paperwork in front of me to see Alayna sitting in front of me, twiddling with her thumbs before her gaze meets mine.

I make my way around the kitchen counter and sit in the bar stool next to her giving her my full attention, "Why you wanna know hon?"

"Well, its the summer before my freshman year and i wanna know who your first love in high school was" she shrugs smiling

"is this about some boy?" I ask wiggling my eyebrow at her causing her to blush and put her head down

"mom!!!" she groans embarrassed lightly shoving me, "Just tell me!"

"His name was Noah" I start smiling at her as her attention was one hundred percent focused on me, "We were best friends and i fell for him around 8th grade"

"How did you know you were in love with him?" Alayna continues to ask looking into my eyes sweetly

"i knew this was about a boy!" I joke poking her sides causing her to laugh and bury her face in her arms

"just tell me mom, im so used to hearing you and dads love stories but i want to know what your life was like before dad, before me" She sighs sitting up and running her hands through her chocolate brown hair to get it out of her face

"he made me smile no matter what, i thought about him 24/7, just his presence made my day better than it was before, I depended on him, i dont even know how to explain it any further i just knew" I gush holding her hands in mine, "You'll know honey, you'll just know"

"I think im in love with Ethan" She murmurs looking up at me, "As in, boy next door Ethan"

My jaw drops just as River and Alec come rushing in with a stampede of two more boys, including Ethan, trailing behind them.

"Hey baby, i hope you dont mind the guys coming by" River chuckles looking between Me and Alayna, "Did we interrupt girl time"

"Nope" Alayna lies racing up the stairs before the boys stampede up following.

River comes to sit in the bench Alayna just occupied and Ethan waltzes into the kitchen making himself at home like he usually does and grabs a juice from the fridge.

"What were you and Layna talking about?" River asks kissing my forehead

"just boys" i shrugs leaning against his shoulder, "our daughter has a crush"

"on who?" River asks looking over at me with a shocked expression across his face

"Lets just say he's here, hence why she rushed up the stairs so quickly" I sigh looking in the other direction

"Ethan?" River asks, me replying with just a soft nod.
