The Girl With Gifts

Chapter One

"Welcome to the tour" a harsh voice announced to the crowd who are crowded around the cage that they have me in. "As you can see from behind me, we have caught some things whom our team said that they showed their gifts."

I jolted forward in reaction to his harsh tone. I'm human too. As i lunged forward the chain around my hand tightened, i hissed at the pain and made it slack so it wasn't digging into my wrist anymore than it had all the previous times i'd tried the same thing. My attempt cause majority of the room to laugh.

With a dog collar around my neck that has been specifically designed to stop our abilities I grunt at them and move away from the bars, trying to seem less important. My eyes trail to the cage next to me which have two other people in whom they say are like me, I glance at them wanting to gain there attention. Only two of us have the collars on. Why is the other one free?

My eyes dart back to the children whom are coming closer to the bars to view... Me... And the others.

We are free to roam in the little cages they have us in however, we can't get into our powers, we can not use them. Slowly, I make my to the floor my back sliding against the wall. I make eye contact with a little girl who has a confused expression on her face, she stares at me. Her eyes glowing a little, tears threatening to streak down her face. I guess she doesn't understand why this is happening or why her parents are allowing it. Her eyes darted up to her mother who shaked her head and made a shh sound. What are they up too?

The tour continued leaving us in silence once again. It's like clockwork, as soon as the tour leave the guards come in. They think doing tests on us will let them work out the antidote or whatever they are working on. I hear a little whimper from beside me, the young girl in the cage knows what's going to happen. It's been the same routine for weeks but this time, I am going to take it.

I glance at her for a second and smile trying to reassure her. When the guard made his way towards her cage i could not stop myself from talking, i had to stop him and take some of his roughness to stop her from whimpering and to trust me, i'm going to be here for her. He edged closer to where she was, his feet pounding on the ground. I could tell she was getting more nervous as he stepped closer. I also edged closer to the end of my cage as close to him as i could get. I coughed a little to gain his attention and gave a little sly smile when his eyes reached mine. He was clearly shocked that i had gained his attention.

"Come to do your bosses dirty work?" I questioned with a smug smile.  When he didn't reply but had a pride written all over his face, i continued. "You're just a pawn in your bosses game and you play that part fantastically doing anything you're commanded to do. Do you not have any fight in you? Are you programmed to be a dog?"

Seeing the pride that was once there slowly fade away i realised i had all off his attention on me, i walk around the cage and glance at the guard.

"Does the dog have to sit, stay and watch. Can you not come into the cage?" I smile. "Come on Dog! Be a rebel for once in your pathetic life. Come here, unchain me. Go against your bosses orders. But i guess you're a good little pup. Obeying every order."

The guard opened my cage door grabbing the keys to my chains and unlocking one. I kept a hold of it has he unlocked the other. Without hesitation, i knocked him over the head withe the metal part which had been around my wrist and quickly grabbed the keys. I made my way to the other cage opening it. 

I went straight for the girl taking her face into my hands, i smile at her whilst we make eye contact.  I looked towards the other person and smiled a little but made a note he isn't wearing a collar like us. I took the handcuffs off of her and slowly stood up with her in my arms.

"It's going to be okay," I smile. " We just need to make it out off here." 

I work on uncuffing the other two in the cage but i know us three with the dog collars will be wary off the one without, i smile at him though wanting him to know that i am attempting to trust him.. In a way i had too, we all needed to escape.

Whilst uncuffing him i decided to ask him, " As you don't have one on, what is your power?" He store blankly at me for awhile, he must have been one of us. Why would he be in a cage if he was human. He smiled at me and placed his hand on my shoulder, i instantly felt like I could trust him.

"It's because I helped people like you guys," he stated. "I was a member of the faculty who helped you guys escape and we are going too."
