at least, for giovanni cambridge, it did.

all hell broke loose in his mind. what? did she say i was batman?

giovanni scoffed mockingly. he didn't know whether he wanted to laugh in silliness or groan in disappointment.

damn, i'm actually torn.

he stared at the bright green eyes of the girl in front of him. it was the second time he'd seen vanadis. the first was unplanned. and now the second had been fixed up by his sister.

"van, pretty please? you have to see her. it'd be perfect. you told me you two had a row, right? now's the right time to mend it up!"

giovanni internally facepalmed. if only Ashleigh isn't his sister then he didn't have to do all of these.

he didn't regret it, though. when it came to vanadis, he'll always be hands down.

"no. i'm not." giovanni chuckled, amused and at the same time disappointed.

vanadis' brows furrowed deeper. giovanni can clearly see the confusion that ran deep through her pair of eyes. who are you? her expression was screaming.

well, atleast she wondered.

giovanni—good god why do i have to do this—took a deep breath. he leaned nearer and propped his elbows on the table. his eyes caught the twitching lips of vanadis and for a second, he just wanted to throw everything else and kiss her.

damn. damn. damn.

"listen."

vanadis only frowned more. listen? what will he say?

"i want a fucking girlfriend."

ah, he said it, at last!

vanadis' lips parted, drinking in the words he said. giovanni only hoped she could remember their first hilarious conversation because if not, then this would be an even more hilarious moment.

and then vanadis gasped.

"y-you..."

she blinked. once. twice. and then the world shook. giovanni licked his lips and was about to say something more—

"giovanni?"

the stars sighed in unison as giovanni's name came out of her mouth. it was pronounced soft and sweet, just like how he wanted it.

he wanted all of it.

"it's you... the brown hair. the blue eyes...

"it's you." vanadis breathed.

"yes." he nodded.

"it's really you."

"yes."

"is it really you?"

"it's me."

"giovanni cambridge?"

"vanadis taylor."

"oh my god!"

fuck, she's so cute. giovanni internally groaned. how could he deserve all of her?

"who—why are you here? how did you know i-it's me? wait... ashleigh..." vanadis blinked innocently.

"ashleigh brought you here!"

"took forever for you to find out." he chuckled.

"where is she? oh my glob i shouldn't—"

vanadis stood up, making giovanni panic. his eyes widened as she attempted to walk out but before she could, he grabbed a hold of her arm and put her back to place.

"don't leave. please." he whispered.

as if on cue, vanadis' eyes watered. she couldn't believe he was here. he was here right in front of her. after all the months they've talked over the phone and not seeing each other in personal, she almost couldn't process in that giovanni actually is real.

"you didn't call me back." she mumbled.

"i did." he looked into her eyes.

"i called you. and listened to your voice."

vanadis frowned. he called? when?

"hi, this is i scream ice cream delivery, we aim to bring delight to your home. how can I help you?"

"..."

"ma'am? sir?"

"..."

"hello?"

"..."

"is anybody there?"

"..."

"um..."

"..."

"hello?"

she laughed humorlessly, "you're kidding me, aren't you?"

he only leaned nearer, "yesterday. november twenty-first. five twenty-seven pm. fourty-eight seconds."

"actually it was five twenty-nine." she glared.

"i don't care, vana—"

"but i do. and you didn't even utter a word! how am i supposed to know it was really you?"

giovanni was silent. somehow, vanadis reminded him of ashleigh. tenacious and very frustrating. only, vanadis frustrates him in a way where he'd do anything for her (give up football, even).

just like now.

he pulled out his phone and swiped it open. a picture of vanadis welcomed his sight. it became his background ever since ashleigh sent it to him.

he could never get enough of her.

he tapped the dialer and searched for the particular call. when he finally saw it, he calmly showed his phone to the glaring vanadis.

"it was me, baby. why won't you believe me?"

"because you're a jerk."

giovanni smiled. he could feel she was almost giving in. her arms were crossed and her lips were pursed but her eyes were screaming of mixed emotions. surprise, happiness, worry, longing, and contentment.

"i am. i'm sorry."

her eyes twinkled in tears, "i can't believe you're here."

"and i can't believe you're so beautiful."

she looked away, "i'm not."

giovanni stared at her. how could this girl say otherwise? she was brighter than the sun in noon and more majestic than the moon in midnight. she was perfect. and if she hadn't realized it yet, he'd be the one to make her realize it.

he reached for her fiddling hand and held it tight. it was soft, just like her.

he didn't want to let go anymore.

"i missed you." he whispered.

and vanadis finally broke into a smile.

"i missed you too."
