Chapter 4~ Solace in Black Coffee

As they entered the Café, Ved watched as Aditya pulled out his phone and switched on the selfie camera. He frowned as his chubby friend began spiking his hair.

'What are you doing?' Ved asked amusedly. Aditya looked at him and smiled, a dreamy smile.

'Hey, I am hoping to impress that hot waitress from yesterday.' He said, his cheeks turning red. Ved raised his eyebrow and began to chuckle. Aditya felt offended.

'Just because I am fat doesn't mean I don't have a chance with a girl.' He reasoned, his brows furrowed, and his lips turned into a cute pout. Ved laughed placing his arm on his shoulder. He encouraged his friend, - 'Who said you are fat? Be yourself and be proud. I am sure girls will fall all over you.' With his friend's words, Aditya looked confident and happy as they walked together to the nearest empty table. 

'Sir?' Ved and Aditya looked up as a masculine voice called them. Aditya looked taken aback when a waiter greeted them. He smiled but Aditya doesn't return the smile. He looked behind his back and Ved had to kick Aditya under the table. The waiter handed them menu cards and walked away.

Ved read his menu while Aditya looked around. Sensing him fidgeting, Ved dropped his menu and looked sternly at him.

'What?' Aditya shrugged and looking at Ved's expression he dropped his shoulders and sighed.

'You always order the same.' Aditya made a face as Ved ordered a black coffee with no sugar. Ved smiled at him and then looked back at the waiter.

'Make it extra black.' He said. Aditya's mouth dropped. After the waiter had gone, Aditya made a face. He commented on how can someone can drink something so bitter.

'No wonder your girlfriend dumped you.' Aditya said mindlessly and then bit his tongue when he noticed Ved's expressions change.

As they wait for their order, Aditya fidgeted with his phone as he was too embarrassed and Ved looked around. His gaze mindlessly roaming around the Cafe.

Though it sounds creepy but Ved likes watching people, observing how they behave and talk, their posture, the hand gestures. He has excellent observatory skills and can understand the person's state of my mind by their body language. No wonder he got suspicious of Dia and Vikram though they very sneakily to hid their infidelity.

Ved had always been alert and observatory since childhood, and beside his dream job, his other passion is writing. Everything he observes around him he likes to write it down. In fact, he is a Pro in writing fantasy genre. He also likes to keep a journal. Recently, he hasn't written anything because the breakup has taken a toll on him. Also, last night he had arranged all his journals deciding to find the time and burn the pages that contained anything remotely related to Dia.

As his gaze fell on the counter, amongst all other waitresses his eyes searched for one, Natasha. Ved is slightly disappointed as she is found nowhere. Perhaps, she is in the kitchen area or has taken leave. But then when his coffee arrived he got distracted. Aditya blabbered something about staying away from women and with all his might he poked croissants with the fork. Ved couldn't care less. He has his favorite coffee in front of him.

Ved held the coffee mug with both his hands and brought it close to his nose. He sniffed. As the strong aroma of the steamy hot coffee hit his nostrils he felt his brain open and he felt lighter.

According to Ved, milk coffee is good, but nothing beats black coffee when someone is having a terrible day or a headache. Often, people find solace in alcohol but Ved finds it in coffee.
