Ved picked up his phone and stared at the screen.
20 miss-calls and ten messages. 15 miss-calls from Natasha and 5 from Aditya. There are eight messages from Natasha. In all of which she is requesting him to talk to her, and that she can explain everything. Aditya's message contains violent threats of squeezing his life out of him if doesn't stop scaring them and pick up their calls. Ved is surprised he hasn't barged in yet.
Ved sighed and leaned in his bean bag. Ever since he saw Nihal, he had locked himself in the house and didn't bother checking his phone. He needed time to come to terms with his heartbreak and clear his head.
There is something else I want to tell, but I am afraid.
Then don't tell.
You don't know much about me either, Ved.
Especially when you are alone and trying to make ends meet.
Don't love me so much, Ved. You might get your heart broken
Ved rubbed his face with his palms. Earlier, he was upset at her because he thought she betrayed him, but he had been stupid to not let her confess. Perhaps, the heartbreak would have been less painful. And, now at least he should let her speak her mind. Ved was about to call her when the door-bell rang. He wondered who could it be on the other side. Taking a second to compose himself, he stood up and lazily walked towards the main door.
He opened the door and is surprised to see Natasha on the other side. Ved felt his heart drop seeing her puffy eyes and disbelieved hair. The otherwise always smiling Natasha looked messed up and Ved knew he is responsible for her state and felt guiltier.
'Natasha.' He said in soft voice. He noticed her posture relax.
'Ved!' Natasha threw her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. 'You weren't- picking up my-ca-calls. I was so scared.' She held the back of his neck with one hand. Ved closed his eyes and hugged her tightly, his face buried in her shoulder. Natasha began crying and he held her close.
Ved separated their frames, Natasha reluctantly let's go of him. He held her hand and led her inside. Natasha sniffed as he closed the door behind her. He walked towards her and held her shoulder.
'Ved, I can expla-' She stopped speaking when Ved squeezed her shoulder. He blinked at her and asked her to relax.
'Look, what you have done to yourself.' He pointed at her face. Natasha shook her head. Ved held her hand and led her towards the living room. He held her shoulders and made her sit. Natasha held his hand and refused to let go. 'Relax, just two minutes I will get you coffee.' He said calmly. Natasha blinked at him cutely.
'Two minutes.'
Ved nodded his head. 'Two minutes.' Natasha reluctantly let's go of his hand.
Ved handed her a mug of coffee and sat beside her. He looked at her, she is looking front. He extended his hand and held her free hand. Natasha sighed.
'I was a fool, Natasha. I should have given you a chance to speak.' He apologized genuinely. Natasha turned her head and looked at him. 'I wouldn't have confessed this part of my life even if you had given me a chance.' She said sincerely. Ved is slightly taken aback by her confession.
'Why?' Ved asked, perplexed.
'Because...I love you.' She paused, her eyelids flickered, and she continued, - 'and I was afraid this secret would ruin everything.' - She looked away and stared at her cup, - 'I was a fool. I thought I would hide you from Nihal and Nihal from you. But,' – she shrugged, - 'For how long would this had worked. The truth had to come.' She sighed and retracted her hand but Ved held her hand tightly.
A teardrop fell from her left eye as she spoke, her voice shaking, - 'When Karan had ditched me, I was lost... Two weeks of wandering the streets, looking for a decent job and finding a place to stay I had discovered I was.... Pregnant with Karan's child. My first instinct was to abort, and I had gone to the clinic as well. But then decided otherwise.' Natasha stopped speaking and closed her eyes. She inhaled deeply and continued, - 'I wanted to keep the baby not because I loved Karan because I didn't have any feelings for him after what he did to me. But the baby, what was my baby's fault and, so I kept it. After knowing about my pregnancy, I got fired from the bar where I worked as a waitress. Apparently, they wanted slim and good-looking waitress and not someone who has a huge belly. The search began again and luckily, I found Asha. She is from the same village as me. She took me in and also got me a job at a coffee joint. That time she was working in another one.' Natasha sighed and looked at Ved.
'I liked you the moment I had seen you, Ved. Slowly, my feelings developed and when we got into a relationship I wanted to tell you everything but hesitated, thinking this truth will ruin us. And I didn't want to be separated from you. I love you too much for that.' Natasha said. Ved shifted and extended his hand. Natasha closed her eyes as he wiped her tears with his thumb.
'One minute.' He said and kept his coffee mug on the table. Natasha looked confused. Ved smiled and left the living room.
He entered his room and began searching for something in the top drawer of his dressing table. He smiled taking out the diamond ring. He stuffed it in his Tee pocket and hurriedly left the room.
Natasha saw him coming back into the living room. She placed her mug and straightened.
'Ved.' She is surprised as Ved kneeled in front of her. He smiled while she blinked at him. He watched her gaze darting. Her gaze followed his hand as he took out the ring from his pocket.
'Ved, what is this?' Natasha asked. She kept looking at it perplexed.
Ved smiled forwarding the ring to her, - 'Natasha urf Nimrat Singh. Will you marry me?'
Natasha's eyes widened, and her mouth dropped slightly. But Ved looked on confidently.
