Chapter 6
Blake Michealson's Pov
Today is the day. It's the old man's birthday today. This is the day that he would finally announce that he would be resigning and who would he pass the company to. Most likely me.
Nicholas was already at the bar dressed smartly in his black suit and dark blue shirt, drinking some champagne. "Nervous?" I asked as I grabbed a glass of champagne from the waiter.
"Aren't you?" He cocks an eyebrow at me.
"I'm nervous that he would back out of his deal and leave all of us high and dry." I raised my glass to him. "Who knows we may end up like Prince Charles still waiting for the crown up until our 70's if the old man doesn't die."
He raised his glass to me in return, clicking it together before taking a sip of it himself. "Don't worry about it. I got it covered."
I looked at him warily proceeding to take a swig myself, leaning closer to him so that nobody could hear us taking. "What have you planned brother?"
"I have asked one of the famous news reporter and to be here later tonight. She is going to write and record down every single thing that father would announce. There's no way for him to back out of his words now." He paused before replacing both of our glass with wine. "Cheer's brother. May the best man win."
I smirked and raised my glass "Cheers."
"There you are!" Maya came storming up to us, wearing a short halter black dress. "Sister. You look as beautiful as always. Nice set up for the party." I praised her, hoping that will distract her from turning into Godzilla. Even though we might be a dysfunctional family but she is my favorite sibling among all of them. She understands me the most and is the one that I trust.
"Thank you. I designed and made it myself." She beamed happily, twirling around to show me her dress. That's my sister easily distracted by simple compliments and attention. "Anyway Daddy is still getting ready in his room but he wants us all to be in the dining room in 30 minutes."
"Of course. If you excuse me I have a call to take." Nicholas said as he stepped out of the room.
As I finished my glass of wine I noticed that something was off with Maya, she look's sad and disappointed. "Hey you okay?" I stood up from my stool and walked towards her.
"No I'm not. Daddy refused my big party and opted for this small family party instead. All I got to do was to make sure that the dinner table is set nicely with all of his favorite foods and that everything else suits his fancy, including the soft classical music that will be playing through the radio later."
I tried my best to hold back a laugh, she really will do anything to impress the old man. "That's not all is it Jean?"
"Stop calling that I hate that name." She gave me a death glare.
I shrugged, "I don't get why you hate a name that mom gave you. It sounds nice."
"Oh yeah? Then why don't you use your first name Nathaniel?"
It's my turn to glare at her now, she knows why I hate that name. But I don't want to get pissed off now, wouldn't want the old man to change his mind at the last second after witnessing me being pissed off. Changing the subject seems like a good way to prevent that. "What's the second thing that's bothering you?"
She sighed, leaning her head on my shoulder. "Daddy probably will give you the company and split out his money to the rest of us but you and I both know that even if he did resign from the company, he won't give out the money first. After that I'm quite sure he won't give me what I want anymore."
