Chapter 9
Blake Michealson's Pov
Meet me in the family room NOW.
-The Old Man
Family room? When have we ever spent time as a family in that room? The old man was never there for us. Since I could remember he never spent any time at all with his family. The only person who was always there for us was...... Forget it.
Why does the old man want to meet me now anyway? Shouldn't he be talking to Brooklyn? I finished off the cup of bourbon and made my way out of my room, meeting Nicholas and James at the elevator door.
"Let me guess. The old man called the both of you down too." I spoke out first. I'm guessing that the old man wants to formally introduce us to Brooklyn, his so-called savior.
"Yes." James answered me while Nicholas just gave me one firm nod. Wonder what has got him in the bad mood.
Once we stepped into the elevator Nicholas went straight to the back while I stood next to him. "Heard you were the one who helped our father find his savior. How did you do it in such a short time?" He asked without so much as looking at me, keeping his eyes staring straight at the glass mirror door in front of us.
Jackpot. He's pissed at me for finding the girl first. "It's no surprise that my capabilities and abilities are far better than yours Nic. You really should brush up on your efficiency. Wouldn't want father to kick you out of the company because of your lack of ability would we?" I said smugly to him, a wide smirk on my face.
The elevator door opens before he could retort and I walked out first full of smugness. The old man was sitting alone in his usual chair in the family room or I would like to call it a common area more. You can hardly call it a family room when that's the furthest thing this "family" is from.
"You called?" I asked as I sat down on the couch opposite of him, right next to Maya who was busy sketching something on her sketch board.
"Yes. Sit." He said to James and Nicholas as they came into the room, motioning for them to sit down on the other couches.
"As you know the girl who did the job that none of you were willing to do. Save my life. Is in the building as we speak right now. She was found by Blake this morning. Congratulations I must say Blake, you manage to find the girl in such a short time. I am really surprised."
I nodded my head at him, at the same time tossing a smug look to Nic from across the room. He rolled his eyes. "Your welcome Sir. Just doing what I was told."
"Now I would like to remind you about my statement earlier about the inheritance of my fortune and company." Maya's head snapped up from her sketchbook, Nicholas sat straighter while James widened his eyes. I couldn't help but lean forward too. Is he going to change his will now? Or would he announce that by finding Brooklyn, by default I passed his test with flying colors and would be the one inheriting the company. "I stand by my word still. Whoever succeeds at getting Brooklyn's Grayson hand will get both the money and the company."
I should have known it wasn't that easy. Nicholas flopped back in the chair while Maya looks at me with a questioning look. James was the only one to speak up. "What if she doesn't marry at all? Where would the money go?"
Now that has got to be one of the useful things he asked during this time of crisis. But why the sudden interest in the money and company?
"I will donate every single penny I have to any research or charity that needs it."
My jaws opened, nearly slamming to the ground. "So you expect us to sell ourselves out to her?" I gritted the words through my teeth. What is this old man playing at?
