Chapter 23

Brooklyn's Pov

After spending what I would assume was an eternity of searching for my so called perfect dress along the stores of Fifth Avenue. We finally found the perfect dress for me. It's a very delicate lace black gown with a plunged V shaped back that absolutely screams couture. It's a scoop neck dress long sleeves simple dress that I suddenly found hiding at the furthest corner of a shop while Maya was busy fussing the shop assistant. The dress was attached to a security wire in the realms of this ridiculously expensive and posh store, there was also no price tag attached to the dress which is another tell tale sign of how possibly expensive this simple dress can get.

Maya also refused to tell me about the price of this dress and assured me that it is within the budget. And when I questioned her about what is the budget, she answered me with and I quote. "The budget is, there is no budget."

She also brought me around a shopping spree where she got me all the things I needed for tonight including shoes and accessories. Well except for a diamond necklace that I really loved but the price of it was obscene. It took a lot of persuading but Maya agreed to go for a much cheaper and simple necklace that she approved off.

The moment we reached back into my room, I collapse on my front onto my bed eager for a good night sleep to avoid tonight's event, while the maids busy themselves arranging everything according to Maya's order.

"Okay Brooklyn your personal hairdresser and makeup artist will be here in an hour. Make sure to put on this rob on when they arrive okay? I need to make sure that Jeremy is tended to too.." She turns to order me, once she's satisfied with them.

Jeremy. I have been so busy this morning that I have completely forgotten about my brother. It slipped my mind that like me he needs to get ready too.

Guilt eats away at me. I have been so coped up with everything that I forgot about him. "Maya, does Jeremy have anything to wear for the ball tonight?"

"Of course! Blake's the one in charge of getting him ready for tonight. I just need to go up and make sure that Blake doesn't screw anything up. God bless his taste but it is nothing compared to mine."

Blake? Blake is the one helping my brother? "Okay. Can I follow you up to make sure he's okay?"

"No! You need to stay here and rest. Remember hairdresser and makeup artist is coming over in an hour. So make sure you are ready by then. You can take a light snooze while you wait." She said before leaving my room.

I groaned and rolled myself over to the edge of my bed, waiting for sleep to hit me but after 5 minutes of tossing and turning I gave up. I'm too nervous and at the same time excited for tonight. Nervous because I have not gotten the slightest idea what to do at these type or events and excited because Blake actually asked me out as a date to such an important event for his family. At the same time, guilt washes away at me for neglecting my brother and I am dying to check up on him.

I need to escape. I need to unwind myself and relax if I am ever going to enjoy tonight's ball. Right now I can only think of one thing. So I went into the wardrobe and grabbed one of the many swimming suits that Maya picked out for me, deciding to go for a quick swim.

Stepping out from the elevator onto the open-air rooftop, I scan the area finding that it is completely empty except for me. It's eerily quiet, the only sound a distant hum of water pumps and the sound of the busy road below us. Gingerly, I took the first step into the water and sigh. It's cool and relaxing. Lovely. I wade down the rest of the steps and push myself into the water and start with a breaststroke to the other end of the pool.
