CHAPTER 1-Vows- America's POV

"Maxon Schreave, do you take America Singer to be your lawfully wedded wife, to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her for better or worse, in sickness and health, and, be faithful only to her for as long as you both shall live?" The priest said.

"I do," Maxon said. Then, he slid the beautiful wedding ring over my finger.

"America Singer, do you take Maxon Schreave to be your lawfully wedded husband to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love him, comfort him, honor and keep him for better or worse, in sickness and health, and be faithful only to him so long as you both shall live?

"I do," I said. Sliding his wedding band over his finger. The band was gold with black diamonds in the center.

" By the power invested in me I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."he said turning to Maxon.

As the priest said that, Maxon leaned his head towards me. He kissed me gently yet passionately.

Now came the vows to make me queen.

As I was kissing my royal husbandness, Gerad was given a different pillow. This one had two crowns resting on top of it instead of two rings.

"Do you, Maxon Schreave, swear to uphold the law, be faithful to Illéa, help with anything the queen needs, and become a great king?" The same man who did our wedding ceremony said.

"I do" he said. He looked over at me with confidence, and I knew right then I could do this.

"Do you, America Singer, swear to uphold the law, be faithful to Illéa, help with anything the king needs, and become a great queen?"

As clear as I could manage I said, "I do."

The priest then sat a crown on Maxon's head. His crown was so pretty! It was gold with little encrusted diamonds and sapphires. Mine was similar, but less bulky.

We turned around hand in hand ready to face anything that might come our way. Everyone was bowing when we turned.

Everything seemed fine until I heard the sound of shattering glass, guns going off, and Maxon and I being hustled to a safe roon.
