Rey was convinced she was a Kenobi after reading the journals Leia had stored. The man who was Rey's grandfather jotted down the place where his residence was located at. It was in Stewjon, very far from Birren. Stewjon used to have a royal family but the Duchess apparently never produced heirs. Queen Leia ordered her royal guards to accompany Rey on her journey and protect the girl at all costs.
"Do you think this is the right choice?" A nervous Rey asked Leia as she finished packing her things. "What if things go wrong and I'm not able to come back?"
The queen sighed and reassured Rey that things would go absolutely fine. "My guards will be with you during this trip. They won't let anybody hurt you, child."
"My queen, If I could ever repay you then.."
Leia held Rey's hand, not letting her finish. "Rey, when you were a child I took quite an appreciation for you. As I always say, you were the daughter I never had."
This made Rey smile but then remembered the queen had a child who nobody in the castle spoke about. "About that, didn't you had a son?"
The smile on the queen's face faded and sadness overtook her features. Seeing this, Rey tried to apologize. "I-I'm sorry, my lady. Shouldn't ask that in the first place."
"It's fine," Leia said. Tears shone in her eyes. She missed her son and all Leia knew about him was that he formed his own army. He also planned to rule Birren someday just like Anakin did before her. This broke the middle-aged woman's heart. If only she and Han knew about their son's struggles before he developed those abandonment issues. "My son is free to do whatever he wishes and I'm alright with it."
Rey had a vague memory of the queen's son as he used to march through the castle's corridors always dressed in dark robes. He was a teenager if she recalls correctly. Rey would always play with their hairy dog, Chewie.
When they got outside the castle, the guards put Rey's bag inside one of the carriages and were ready to escort the handmaiden to her destination. Queen Leia gave the girl a warm hug before Rey could depart. She was wearing a light purple dress, a pearl necklace, a gold necklace that the queen gave to all her handmaidens, and a headpiece. "Thank you, my lady. Wish me the best of luck!"
The two carriages finally departed with Rey seeing how the castle vanished in the distance as they moved. Years working for Queen Leia gave her some nostalgia and most likely she would never see the charismatic woman again. Rey took a deep shaky breath and expected to begin a new life. She took out one of Sir Kenobi's journals from a brown sack and turned some of the pages. Reading about this man's adventures entertained the young woman. It gave her some sort of hope. If only Sir Kenobi was still alive... He must come from a prominent family so that means Rey could be a Lady. She kept on reading the journal until she leaned her head on the window, falling asleep in the process.
Nightfall began to cover the surroundings of the camp. Some soldiers were on duty by guarding everywhere, others on top of watchtowers. Bows and arrows always ready for any attack. Cricket noises pierced the ears of those who were still awake. A group of men was sitting on the ground, eating soup while others danced and sang heroic songs.
Two soldiers on watch suddenly heard the sound of what it seemed to be horses and carriages approaching their place. No one was allowed to take that route especially in times of war. One of the men ran back to the camp and informed General Hux about the intruders getting closer. Hux quickly rose from his bed and went on to tell Ren the news. The soldier quickly followed.
Sir Ren was in his tent, writing a letter to the Knights of Ren about their next move. He planned on going to the Kingdom of Crait and meet Snoke. According to Hux, the king was interested in Ren's army fighting for Crait. Also, he wanted to supply them with more weapons. These offers couldn't be ignored and would help them to conquer other many kingdoms. Birren was one of them something Ren was aware of.
"We have a small problem!" Hux went inside the tent and noticed how Ren kept on writing without acknowledging him. The knight kept on writing the letter until Hux called out to him again. "Ren, I said we have a problem!"
Sighing in annoyance, he dropped the feather quill pen and turned to look at Hux. "What is it now?" He asked angrily.
"Mounted men leading two carriages are approaching us. It is for the best to inspect who these trespassers are." Hux informed Kylo Ren who then stood from the chair, grabbing the dark crossguard sword.
"Then let's get going. Unless, General, you want to stay here like the coward you truly are." Sir Ren mocked Hux, sheathing his sword.
Hux didn't speak as Ren walked past him followed by the soldier. The red-haired man couldn't wait to get rid of Queen Leia's son and his secret plan to pay off.
The trip got all bumpy as the carriage jumped a lot. An abrupt bump woke Rey up as she hit the side of her head with the window. Rubbing the side of her head with one hand, she looked outside and it was pitch black. They were far from civilization already. Sir Kenobi's journal fell on her feet and when Rey was about to pick it up the carriage made a stop.
Rey found it strange since there weren't going to stop unless she wanted to. Those were the Queen's orders. Looking out the window, she saw a group of men carrying torches and what it looked like to be... swords. Then, the sounds of swords clashing with each other and screaming men made Rey tremble. It was an ambush. Perhaps the attackers knew they came from Birren and were ready to steal them or worst... kill them.
"Should I escape?" Rey asked herself, not knowing what to do yet. That would be a dangerous move, she thought. She was being protected by the best guards of the queen and they will never let anybody hurt her.
Then, it turned quiet outside and a couple of laughs made her heart race. Rey couldn't take it anymore and went to open the carriage's wooden door. As she did, it was being opened from the outside, making the young woman fall to the ground. Her dress was now ruined thanks to the jerk who forced the door open.
"It's a woman, sire," one soldier informed Sir Ren.
Rey felt when hands grabbed her by both arms making her stand up. This infuriated the handmaiden and tried to pull away from their grasp. "What do we have here? A fiery feline may I ask?" The mocking tone of Ren made her try to pull away once more unsuccessfully.
He walked over Rey, curious to see who the woman was or looked like. "Lights!"
A soldier hurriedly illuminated the girl's face with the use of a torch. She lifted her gaze to study the tall man standing in front of her. His hair was black and somehow voluminous, had broad shoulders, light skin, a pronounced nose, and full lips. Surprisingly, he had a young face too.
Ren thought the girl was attractive at first sight, but why was she being escorted by Birren's royal guards? The carriage belonged to Queen Leia. "Who are you?"
"That will be none of your business!" Rey defiantly answered. "Now tell your goons to let me go!"
The soldiers, together with Hux, looked at each other in shock. This made Ren smirk at Rey, "That's fine. There will be time for you to reconsider things as our prisoner ."
She gasped and widened her eyes in horror. "P-prisoner? No, it can't be!"
"Guards! Take this insolent cat to where she belongs to now." Ren ordered not taking his eyes away from Rey.
"NO! Please, don't!" Rey yelled, almost pleading, as the two guards take her towards the camp. Rey kicked harshly in the air as both men carried her away.
Rey was now Ren's prisoner and it was up to him to discover who was this mysterious woman that came from his mother's kingdom. It was going to be a long night.
