The Kingdom of Birren was very respected around the country but also feared by many. All of its rulers were notorious for their command and prestige. It was summertime in the kingdom and that day everyone paid their tributes to Queen Leia. She was the current ruler of Birren and villagers admired her. The old king Anakin was totally different than his only daughter. He was vile and ruthless, forcing families to give their all to his luxurious kingdom. All their taxes would go to him and then would order to build many other castles outside of Birren. Many villagers became slaves including children. If they didn't follow his wishes, King Anakin ordered their execution in front of their own family. He was an evil ruler as they recall...
That late afternoon, the Queen was sitting on her throne, enjoying the small plays and dancing from a group of villagers as a sign of their gratitude. It was her anniversary of accession to the throne and the castle was decorated with her favorite flowers; lilacs. The smell of these flowers engulfed the whole place. When Anakin was king he used to hate flowers and their scent so they weren't allowed around. Her mother, Queen Amidala, was the contrary of her father. If only her and Luke had a better father things would have gone differently. Her thoughts then centered on her brother who rejected the throne in the end. Prince Luke moved to Ach-to fleeing from royal engagements and the memory of his late father. This Leia understood and with no other choice accepted to become the sovereign instead. This pleased Amidala a lot before dying in Leia's arms.
Then, the prince consort unexpectedly passed away and Leia widowed. Han was her everything and the one who brought happiness to her tragic life. Anakin never approved of their relationship. Han Solo was the son of a merchant and someone not suitable in the old King's eyes. However, Amidala grew fond of the young man and Luke began to see him as a brother. After Anakin's death, both Han and Leia finally married in the castle's chapel and sealed their love. His death came too soon and there wasn't doubt on the queen's mind that he was poisoned. But the most painful thing was losing her angel, her heart... her son.
If only her and Han worked things with their son...
Suddenly, the dancers finished and before they could leave the room bowed to their queen. Leia and her young handmaidens clapped at the young performers. When it was getting late, Leia rose and called for one of the handmaidens to walk by her side. The girl did. "Let's go to the garden, Rey. I need to have a walk with my favorite handmaiden."
The young woman nodded, a soft smile clouded her beautiful features. "To the garden, it is, my queen."
The two women trusted each other a lot. Rey was Leia's confidante and some could say 'assessor' in royal businesses. Rey was an orphan from unknown parents, left in the horses' mews one stormy night. Two soldiers found the baby girl, crying from hunger and cold. Leia couldn't think about getting rid of the little one and gave it to Dormé, one of Amidala's old handmaidens. She educated Rey and taught her how to be a loyal servant to the queen with successful results.
Rey grew up to be an independent, smart, and brave young woman. She was beautiful too but knew how to defend herself from perverts. Many men desired Rey but all she cared about was to find out about her past. Someone to tell her in what place she truly belonged.
Who were her family? Why they abandoned her on that rainy night? It frustrated the young handmaiden every time. Also, nobody gave her clues or anything.
"Have you enjoyed the festivities so far?" Rey asked the queen as they arrived at the gardens. The breeze of fresh air blew through the area; the evening was approaching too.
"It has been wonderful, can't deny that. The people have finally found peace after years of suffering." Leia answered looking at the mountains where the sun was setting.
They stopped in front of a balcony to watch the magnificent sunset. Rey smiled at the wonderful view in which the whole town was also visible. "Was the old king that bad?" She then asked.
Leia gave a half smile, "I believe my father was manipulated, Rey. Courtiers treated him like a boy and the king was just their puppet."
"But why Queen Amidala allowed it? The king must at least had some good assessors to give him better advice..." Rey muttered, her eyes fixed on the view.
"She tried, but Sir Palpatine and Sir Dooku were a huge influence on father." Leia said playing with the beads on her sleeve. Both men ruined Anakin and got away with their plans. "There was one that almost convinces my father otherwise."
"Who, my queen?" Rey asked snapping her eyebrows together.
Taking the young woman's hand, Leia guided Rey to sit on a nearby bench. "Rey, I need to tell you something valuable."
This made Rey worried, especially the way Leia was holding her hand tightly. After all she was like a mother to Rey and felt that the queen considered her a daughter too. "What, my queen? Is it that important?"
Leia nodded slowly, "It's time you know about your origins, my dear."
Rey's heart threatened to jump out of her mouth after hearing the word 'origins'. "...My lady, you know about my family?"
The Queen smiled at the girl, "One of my father's courtiers; I believe he was related to you."
Rey's mouth fell open. "Are you sure? W-Why I was never told then?"
"I discovered it not too long ago," Leia responded. "There were some old journals written by the old king's courtier mentioning about his forgotten granddaughter."
Rising from the bench, Rey began rubbing her left arm with his right hand. "But I'm a no one. It can't be."
"No, you're not." Leia then gently held Rey by the shoulders to make her listen. "He always knew about you, Rey. The news of his own daughter's death after childbirth broke his heart tremendously. He documented everything in those journals."
"Who was he? Please, your majesty, I beg you!" Rey urged Leia to tell her with an almost desperate tone.
"His name was Sir Obi Wan Kenobi. He died days after you were brought here." The queen told Rey in a firm voice.
Rey's lower lip trembled and lowered her head. "Then, my mother died after giving birth to me. I killed my own mother."
"Oh, child! Stop blaming yourself for everything!"
The queen then hugged Rey. The girl was like the daughter Leia never had. "You are someone, Rey. A strong woman like you belongs somewhere."
"Does he wrote anything about his residence or his family?" Rey asked feeling more relaxed.
"We will have to verify those journals once again."
Taking a deep breath, Rey took a decision after quick thinking. "My queen, I need to seek the Kenobi family. If indeed they are my family, it's my destiny to meet them and claim my rightful last name."
Leia smiled at Rey, "And you don't know how that makes me really glad. Tomorrow we will discuss things more calmly."
"Alright. It's getting dark and we should get back to the castle." Rey suggested.
The two walked back inside the castle. Rey couldn't wait to embark on a journey to find the Kenobi residence and family. Those were her current wishes.
