"Chewie! Hey, Chewie!" Little Rey called the big furry dog while searching for him inside the castle hallways. There was no sign of the Queen's dog anywhere as Rey wandered around. She was playing fetch with the canine in the gardens that morning when suddenly he vanished.
This was worrying Rey and thought Queen Leia would get mad at her for losing Chewie. The queen was so good with her, letting her be inside the castle and play with the dog. Dorme, her adopted mother, always made sure Rey wouldn't get in trouble. According to Dorme, someday Rey would become a handmaiden and serve their queen. The little girl couldn't wait to work for Queen Leia and learn more about some old stories of Birren.
Rey turned a corner, still calling at the dog. Two male voices were heard and the little girl wanted to find out what was going on. As she got closer, taking silent steps on, the voices grew louder. Stopping behind a large wall, Rey carefully observed the two men arguing with each other. The curious girl recognized Han, the prince consort, and the queen's beloved husband. The other one looked like a young adult wearing a long sleeve white shirt underneath a red doublet and dark pants with boots. His back was on Rey making it impossible to see his face.
"If it wasn't for your mother the entire town would have rebelled against us!" Han argued trying to make the young man change his views.
"You mean those low life pheasants? They were ungrateful to my grandfather, including your wife! The young adult argued back.
Han's face contorted in anger. "The old king was only but evil! Forced innocent villagers to work for him and ended up killing them! You consider that ungrateful?"
"One day I will be king of Birren and things will be better under my reign." He shot at his father. "Queen Leia will have to abdicate after realizing how much of a failure she turned out to be."
This angered Rey. For her, Queen Leia was kind and a good monarch to the people. Her son was being mean and a complete jerk. Rey didn't want to be ruled by that jerk speaking ill about the queen.
"Then, I'm afraid you will have to abide or.."
"Leave Birren." The queen's son finished the sentence for Prince Han. "Not even my foolish uncle had the guts to reign Birren! I'm the chosen one and the future king whether those villagers scum like it or not!"
Han swallowed thickly, feeling hurt and defeated. He couldn't bring his son to understand and had too much of King Anakin on him. "I've failed you, my son. We weren't the best parents in the whole kingdom, that I accept."
The father gently placed his hand on the young man's cheek. Seeing how his son took a few steps backward, Han turned around and walked away from the scene. Rey hid again for Han to not see her.
When Han disappeared from sight, Rey was also ready to move when suddenly Chewie jumped over her. The long-haired dog started licking her face playfully as he always did when both played. "Stop, ya mutt! Get off me!"
"What's the meaning of this? Chewie! Come here now!" The young man walked over them and quickly Chewie obeyed his master.
Rey stood up from the floor. "..I-I apologize, sir. We were playing fetch and.."
"And you were listening to me and my father's conversation." He interrupted Rey, crossing both arms over his chest.
"That is not true!" The little girl scowled.
