"what are you even doing here?"
y/n asked,
making jane turn on her feet.
"came to see mike."
"really? out of all the places to meet him, you find him at my house?"
the girl stood quiet,
making y/n fume with anger.
"i was here first,"
she finally spoke.
the words surprised y/n,
and made her feel rather embarrassed.
"she's here now, jane."
mike spoke from y/n's side,
though his voice was quiet.
hesitant, even.
jane heard it too,
because she gave a small laugh and nodded,
"mhm. i'll see you guys around."

mike couldn't sleep that night,
nor did y/n.
their minds were much too occupied,
"what to do...what to do,"
mike murmured beneath his breath,
but he knew there was nothing he could do besides ignore these feelings in hopes they'd disappear on their own.

y/n didn't go home that night,
the boys practically forced her out of the house.
the thought was sweet and brought just the faintest of smiles to y/n's face.
tonight,
she decided to stay with will.
he slept on the floor,
and she slept on his bed.
though she gesture was nothing short of kindhearted,
it just wasn't the same.
she missed mikes bed.
but more importantly,
she missed mike.
why must my life be so difficult?
she thought pitifully with a silent sight.
she wished,
prayed,
and hoped,
that for once in her life,
things could work out in her favor.

y/n hadn't been to school in about a week and a half.
she was afraid to show her face again.
she didn't want to see will,
or dustin,
or lucas,
especially not mike.
she heard the familiar sounds of the voices she once heard all the time,
but this time they were just outside the window.
"y/n! y/n!"
dustin yelled out for her.
y/n's eyes grew wide,
but her panic only heightened when she looked out the window to confirm her worries.
"oh my god, oh my god,"
she whimpered as she ran down to the front of her house.
if her mother heard their calls,
there was no doubt all hell would be unleashed.
she hurried to try and open the downstairs window closest to them,
but it was painted shut.
they didn't see her or her desperate attempts to shush them while she pulled her shoes on.
"god dammit, y/n! get those friends of yours
and shut them the hell up!"
her mother yelled with a raspy voice,
letting her fist connect to her stomach.
y/n heaved for air again,
but her mother felt absolutely relentless today.
her already bruised knuckles connected to her face again,
where the faint taste of blood could be found dripping from her lip.
she stumbled to her feet rather dizzily,
with a head throbbing so profusely she was sure it was to bust soon.
the boys continued to yell her name,
but they were faint and mumbled from the ringing in her ears.
she had to act,
and it had to be quick.
she ran out the door,
wiping the blood from her lip on the back of her hand.
"oh my god,".
they all chorused together.
she angrily stumbled to the road away from the house,
where her mother was well out of earshot.
"please just go home."
her hoarse voice begged.
"no, we cant!"
lucas protested.
"please....for me."
she was scared,
if she was being honest.
she needed them to leave,
and it needed to be soon.
she scanned the boys around her and felt her heart sink once she realized mike was nowhere to be seen,
despite his bike lying still just a few meters away from them.
they saw the plea in her eyes,
and just like that,
the boys sped down the street on their bikes.
with mike no where to be seen.
she trailed back into the house slowly,
trying to avoid further issues in the family.
y/n quietly limped to the bedroom she claimed,
and laughed darkly at the confusion of when she had hurt her leg.
when she reached the tranquility of her room that smelled of book pages,
she closed the door behind her.
she rested her forehead to the door and allowed the air to desperately fill her lungs.
her heart continued to race,
palms sweating,
head throbbing.
she swallowed the clean, fresh air and turned around with shaky legs.
"what the hell!"
she whispered harshly,
a concerned mike sitting on the edge of her bed.
