Lance was walking through the halls, away from the dining room. It's hard to have to live without the one you love after months of being on the same castle-ship. The problem is, it was one sided.
Lance never bothered to tell Keith about his feelings. He was too scared of rejection. He was scared of the truth and hanahaki. The disease was thought to be a myth but Lance knew better. One of his best friends had died from it. It started with what everyone thought was just a cold. It was just harsh coughs at first, then came the blood and petals. It was almost tragically beautiful in a way. She had refused to get the surgery to cure her. She couldn't give up her feelings for the one she loved.
Lance didn't want to end up like she did. The only other way to stop hanahaki is to fall out of love with the person. That would never happen though. He couldn't imagine loving anyone other then Keith.
Everything was going as usual when Lance walked into the training room to work on his hand to hand combat. He stopped when he got to his destination. Looking through the window, he was caught off guard by what he saw.
Sure, he wouldn't be surprised by Keith training but instead he saw the red paladin laying on the ground with Shiro leaning over him. He wouldn't have froze up but he saw Shiro kiss the other on the corner of his lips.
Lance turned and walked back down the hall. He wasn't angry or as sad as he would expect. If anything, he was glad that Keith had found love and was happy. Even if it was with someone else.

It wasn't until a few days later that Lance started noticing something in his throat. He waved it off as a cold even though he knew that it wasn't as simple as that.
It started as a soft cough that soon turned harsh. When the others questioned him, he told them the same lie he was telling himself. He wasn't quite sure why he was lying though. They could help him. But would he accept help?
He started getting more concerned when bright purple rose petals started falling from his mouth. He had to turn away or leave when he would cough.
It was fine for a couple days until during dinner, Lance abruptly stood from his seat and ran out of the room. He got to the bathroom and started puking. Petals and flowers buds coated in bright blood filled the toilet. Tears ran down Lance's face as the truth hit him square in the chest. He was dying.
A knock came from the bathroom door.
"Lance? Are you okay? You left in a hurry."
Matt.
Lance tried to answer but his voice was quiet and scratchy. He also realized that he got hit to lock the door in his haste to get the the toilet.
"I'm coming in, okay?"
Lance started to protest but started puking once again.
The door opened and Matt stifled a gasp before shutting and locking the door. He walked up to Lance and grabbed some toilet paper to wipe the blood off his mouth.
Lance was shaking as sobs racked his body. Matt leaned down and hugged him.
"It'll be okay. You'll be okay, Lance. We can get through this."
"B-But I-"
"No. Listen to me. It will be okay. You'll live. You'll get through this."
This made a wave of fresh tears cover Lance's face.
"You'll be okay."
