The best friends
Sirius Black x Reader
Warning: none

James chased after your long time bestfriend Lily, once again leaving you to fend for yourself in this hell hole of a school. You sighed to yourself. If only Lily would admit her feelings for that boy then she wouldn't have to constantly leave you to go hide. James was a nice enough guy, though you didn't agree with all his methods. You got along with ¾ of the marauders however James bestfriend was a different story. You never could come to like or understand people like that. Those who were considered players and could easily jump from one relationship to another. You could barely keep a grip on one. Besides, school was already hard enough without having to deal with relationships and socialization. You stuck to Lily and occasionally had long conversations with Remus but other than them you didn't talk to many. You kept to yourself and a lot of people were curious about you but not curious enough to try and get to know you. Sirius however, attempted daily to speak with you and get to know you but to break down several walls for someone who most likely only thought of you as a "project" was something you wouldn't allow. Just as you turned a corner leading back to the common room, your safe place when everyone was out on weekends, you caught a glance of the infamous Sirius black and groaned internally thinking 'not right now' to yourself.

Sirius made his way down the winding corridors in search of something to do. In the back of his head he had the small thought to attempt to find you and strike a conversation once again even though it most likely would fail. Remus was studying, Peter was out on a date, and James of course was harassing poor Evans again. Sirius cursed himself slightly. If he'd stayed with James, he most likely would've found you. You were always by Lily's side which came as an advantage for him since James was head over heels for this girl. Sirius was the same way with you but he'd never show unless around the guys which all started completely on accident when he doodled your name all over a paper in class and needless to say he was tortured and teased by the marauders for two weeks. He'd never felt this way about anyone and the fact that you'd barely speak to him made him think it was a lost cause. He'd be off to the next girl soon but most likely would still wish it was you. Just as he began to walk down a new hall he saw you and a grinned plastered its way onto his.

You kept your eyes focused on the ground with the hope if you didn't acknowledge him maybe he wouldn't attempt to speak to you. You were extremely wrong. Sirius stopped dead in front of you. "Are you headed to the common room? All my friends are busy today and I'd really love the company". You blinked. His voice always came out flirty to you which both confused and annoyed you though you couldn't deny he had a great voice. "I can't stop you from being the common room at the same time as me but I am going to be reading my book in silence the whole time". You began to walk as you finished your sentence. Sirius followed behind you at a distance. Not too far but close enough where he could catch up with you. You made it the common room, Sirius holding the door and you thanking him. You took a seat on the couch in front of the fireplace while Sirius sat in a chair across from you. You began to read, glancing up at Sirius here and there to see whether or not he'd actually stay quiet or still. After a few minutes you comfortably settled into your book enjoying the comfortable atmosphere that Sirius always provides you with. For some reason, no matter what was going on, you felt less shy and more confident when Sirius was in the room. You were more outspoken when Sirius was present and you never knew why you felt this way around him but you did enjoy it.

After theee hours you noticed Sirius was curled up in a ball snoring slightly to himself. It was an adorable sight and you wished for a moment that this would never change. You grabbed a blanket and draped it over his body and heated the fire up again. You took one more glance before heading up to your room to get another book to read. When you came back down Sirius was stretching with a tired smile on his lips. God if you didn't think he was attractive before, you definely did now. He was so adorable when he wasn't talking and annoying the hell out of you. "Hey thanks for the blanket". His voice was deep, raspy, and laced with sleep. You walked over to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek before sitting back down on the couch. "It's the least I can do since you were being so nice and quiet for me". You glanced up only to met with a shocked Sirius who quickly attempted to regain his composer, failing miserably. "Yeah I-it was n-no problem. Thanks for the company". He looked at the fireplace which lit up his flushed cheeks. You raised an eyebrow. "Sirius are you feeling alright? You seem to not be yourself right now". He met your eyes, something unreadable showed, something you'd never experienced with Sirius. "Sorry, I'm okay just you know". He motioned to his cheek and you chuckled. "Sirius it was force of habit. Lily falls asleep all the time when I'm reading". He looked down. It seemed like he was thinking about what to do or say next. He got up and sat extremely close to you on the couch. He looked down at his hands and glanced up at you. "Y/n, why do you hate me?". "Oh my godric, Sirius Black I do not hate you. Where would you get that idea from?". "You try ending our conversations quickly and always try to avoid my presence. It's frustrating since I just want to be your friend right now". You starred at him confused. 'Right now? What was that suppose to mean'. "Right now?". Sirius held eye contact with you. "Y/n, it's obvious to anyone around that I really don't want to be friends with you". He intertwined his fingers in yours. You were confused for a second until the realization of what Sirius was implying hit you. "I'm not a-" "Project? Yeah Lily told me that's what you thought this was. Look it's like how James likes Lily except I don't act on it like him. Wouldn't want to drive you away, it's already hard enough to say hi to you." He chuckled and waited for your reply. You said nothing. Within that moment you couldn't think about much except that if Sirius had gotten Lily to believe him and talked about how you felt with him then all it must be true. She wasn't dumb and neither were you. You leaned forward and pressed your lips to his, feeling him smile. When you pulled back Sirius was grinning like an idiot. "So next mission is to get Lily and James together now that we're-" "yup". Sirius kissed your forehead after you read his mind. "More readings?". "Yup". "Good I get good sleep around you". You chuckled as Sirius layed his head in your lap and quickly fell asleep in minutes.

Both of you had to thank your best friends afterwards
