Life on the Pitch
Warnings: none
"AND GRYFFINDOR WINS!!". The blaring of Jordan over the microphone boomed throughout the whole of the stadium. Everyone erupted into shouts and screams of excitement. A well deserved win was precisely what the team deserved after a nearly four hour long match against the rival house of slytherin. Between their dirty tricks and the unpredictable weather the team had odds against them but the crowd remained loyal, watching every second as though it was the final one. You stayed despite the drizzles of rain. Even after seeing Oliver take a bluger to the stomach you stayed although at that point you didn't want to watch him get hurt anymore even if it was a slight possibility. Oliver had been your ride or die best friend since entering Hogwarts. The only thing that had separated you two over the years was his love of the pitch and your love of books. Being out on the pitch, practicing new strategies and practicing being a better keeper was Oliver's favorite things to do other than being with you. You however, would much rather be in the library getting a grip on your studies and finding new information about various creatures in your magical world. Oliver always jokes you have your whole life to read as many books as you want, why not do something else to which you'd say well you've got your whole life to play quidditch so why don't you take a break. You both knew there was no changing the other in regards to your favorite things in life but you still could tease each other to some extent about it in the meantime.
You walked onto the pitch with everyone congratulating the team as you walked past. Harry was getting to most of the praise since he had finally caught the snitch after a long tiring battle. You made your way to Oliver who was surrounded by women in your year flirting and praising him to your displeasure. Oliver was loved by most of the girls at Hogwarts and you'd be lying if you said it didn't bother you. As soon as Oliver saw you he flashed his large signature smile and lifted you off the ground making you scream slightly. "I thought I told you not to lift me!". You hit Oliver's arm as he laughed at your extreme reaction. "I couldn't help it! After all it's a celebration!". You laughed at Oliver's response. Despite the annoying things he does, you couldn't have gotten a better best friend. "Well congratulations Captain. Took you long enough". You playfully hit Oliver in the arm. "We'll win faster next time. I wasn't expecting those tricks from those slytherins otherwise I would have planned a better play". Oliver looked to the sky as if imaging what he could've done better as the team's leader. "Hey as long as the job is done it doesn't matter how you got there right? You played fairly and strongly. I'm proud of you". Oliver looked back at you. You managed to always say what could clear his mind or cheer him up even in the slightest way. After a few minutes of chatter, a slight drizzle of rain began to turn into a hard pour.
Everyone ran out of the pitch and into the building. The whole of the house of gryffindor decided to take the party back to the dorm and while you wanted to hang out and have fun with your winning best friend you also wanted to get some sleep after what was a long day even though you hadn't done much other than survive a bit of rain. You hugged Oliver as you headed off for a well needed sleep.
In the morning you woke bright and early. On a Saturday it was likely that Oliver was up at least by six and already on the pitch working on a new game plan for the next coming match. Most days this was potentially your only time to spend with Oliver alone. Most of these mornings the two of you didn't speak much. You sat in the stands bundle up with your sweater and scarf as the cold mornings began to get worse. You read the newest book you'd checked out of the library as Oliver worked hard in the air in front of you. You paid enough attention to him to be sure if he was hurt or not but otherwise neither of you really engaged with the other. As you finished up the last chapter of your book you felt a presence hovering just above you. Sure enough Oliver was watching you on his broom. "Are you finished?". He inquired. "Actually yes I just finished. What time is it? Have you formulated a game plan already?". Oliver chuckled. "I have, just a few more details to sort out and it should work against the hufflepuffs." He sat down next to you, taking a moment to breath the crisp morning air in. "We've been out for about four hours now by the way. We'd better get some breakfast. I'm starving." You looked at your watch in shock. Oliver was right. Usually it would be three hours at most before you two would decide breakfast was necessary. You began the long track back to the great hall from the pitch. As you two made it to the ground of the pitch you slowed to smell the grass and morning. You may spend all your time in the library but the smell of the pitch had become one of your favorites. If you ever had to make amortentia you were almost positive you'd mainly smell the pitch. You didn't pay attention and trip on a patch of the pitch. Oliver, with his phenomenal reflexes, caught you by your wrist pulling you into him. "Thanks". You responded short of breath from how close you two were, inches away from his face. "No-no problem.". He let out a breathy chuckle and while you were still close he stuttered some more. "Hey y/n I have something I wanted to run by you by the way". Your heart pumped faster. "I uh like you but really didn't want to upset you at all because of it and I- um yeah". You laughed at Oliver slightly. "Now why would I be upset that my crush likes me back." Oliver looked shocked as if all the signs over the years weren't obvious. You gave him a peck on the cheek and pulled him towards the great hall. "Come in breakfast is waiting. Call it our first date." Oliver laughed at you and allowed you to pull him along with you.
