*Note that you are a child in this story*

When you awoke, you were surrounded in liquid of some kind that you breathed in as though it were air.

It wasn't long after you started moving around that someone pulled you out of your habitat and dried you off with a towel before clothing you.

Basic knowledge crowded your brain, language, numbers, how to function, everything you should have known except for your own name.

A man in a white lab coat eyed you for a bit before grinning and deciding what he was going to call you. "______, that's your name. It fits you."

And ever since that day, you'd been alone, trying to claim your innocence and suffering on your own since you hardly considered any of the scientists to be your friends and could not confide in them for they did not understand your feelings or struggles.

One morning, you walked through the rows and rows of pods before you saw movement and grew excited, intruiged and terrified all at once. Was that someone new who had awoken? Would you be able to be their friend? Would they have to suffer like you? You nearly slipped as you ran to the Amber pool you'd seen the movement from and kneeled down by it. "Good morning! It's about time you woke up sleepyhead!" You sang, offering a hand to the being down below.

Reluctantly, your hand was taken and you pulled a boy your age out of the liquid. You smiled at him with unexplained joy, perhaps it was because you were no longer alone or that he was really cute, you were happy either way.

"W-Who are you?" He managed to ask.

"I'm _______! I've been waiting forever for someone else to wake up, it's so nice to see you!" You chattered cheerfully.

Scientists were on the scene in moments and you watched the boy be taken away to be clothed and examined most likely and secretly, you found yourself sneaking after them. Your eyes were glued to the new boy and leaving him would most likely leave you feeling more lonely than ever before. It would be sad to be alone but have the opportunity to spend time with someone and not be able to, so you hid around corners and slipped through doorways until one of the scientists laughed and said it was ok for you to visit "Alma" without hiding in the shadows.

"Alma?" You said the name quietly but curiously.

The scientist nodded and the boy whom you'd helped smiled. "Yep! I'm Alma Karma!" He said happily.

The terrifying feeling you'd felt earlier overwhelmed your other senses, curling and making knots in your stomach as you realized what time it would be soon.

You would have to try to claim your innocence soon.

"Mr. scientist, does Alma have to try and claim the... innocence?" You questioned.

He nodded. "You'll both do fine! Now that you have each other, maybe you'll have more reason to claim it!"

"What does that mean?" Alma asked.

Tears welled up in your eyes and you couldn't find the words to say, even when the scientists parted you from one another to begin the experiments, you said nothing. Alma only gave you a quizzical look and began asking everyone questions, but you were not the one to answer him.

-

"That was horrible!" Alma sobbed when he saw you again.

You embraced him and allowed him to cry on your shoulder. "I know, I'm so sorry..." You murmured.

"Why...? Why did they force me to do that?!"

"I'm so sorry, but it's what we have to do... I'm just glad to have you after I've been alone for so long,", you admitted.

"You mean... You were by yourself in this terrible place?"He asked, his voice quiet and trembling.

You nodded. "I was so sorry you had to wake up to do this, but I'm glad I'm not alone anymore."

He held you a bit tighter and hiccuped. "You poor thing! I'll be ok, no, we'll be ok. If we have each other, we'll be ok."

You smiled. "Yeah. One day we'll claim our innocence, you just have to believe. It'll accept us one day."

He parted from the hug, but nustled up next to you instead and laced his fingers through yours before leaning on your shoulder. "We'll just have to wait is all," he said.

"Yeah. Who knows how long we'll have to, but I know we can do it. Thank you for waking up Alma."

"Thank you for helping me ________."
