Valkyrie bit her lip.
"It's... it's for school, Mum," she said.
"Oh." her mother said. Valkyrie hesitated. "I... I had to.... I mean, I won a, like, fake skeleton at school and... it's for science."
"Oh. Okay. Although it's a weird thing to bring home, isn't it Steph?"
"Yeah." Valkyrie lied. "Sure." She came downstairs and picked Skulduggery up off the floor. She could tell he was trying not to laugh. She brought him upstairs to her room and shut the door. Then he started laughing. Valkyrie hit him. "Shut up!"
