Rise of Darquesse: Skulduggery Pleasant Fanfic Chapter 10

Valkyrie opened her eyes and screamed as Doctor Nye looked down at her.

"Hello." It said.

Skulduggery and Ghastly came running in. Valkyrie blinked. Was it just her, or did Skulduggery look... upset? He didn't have his facade on, but he was hanging his head and he was avoiding her glances.

Valkyrie motioned to Ghastly and he came over.

"What's the matter with Skulduggery?" she asked softly. Ghastly looked surprised. "You don't... remember?"

"Should I?"

Valkyrie thought for a moment, then started shaking.

"Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no..." she muttered.

Ghastly looked at her sadly. "You saved China's life, but you endangered your own."

Skulduggery walked over and held her by the shoulders.

"I..." he mumbled, "am extremely sorry."

Then he walked away.

Valkyrie took a bus home. It was weird, not driving to the pier with Skulduggery in the Bentley. She hoped he was okay.

The bus stopped down the road from her house. She jumped out and walked up the road. She thought about the pain she had felt. Not just when she had gotten shot, but the pain because Skulduggery was the one who shot her.

She shook her head. She didn't like thinking these things. She reached her gate and walked up the driveway.

She lifted her head and looked in the window. She saw a blonde lady inside with her parents. She gasped then tears dripped down her cheeks.

Tanith had lied.

She ran inside and burst into the living room. Tanith had her sword out and was holding it in front of Valkyrie's parents.

"Stephanie!" Melissa Edgley screamed. "Go upstairs and get Alice! Hurry!"

But Valkyrie wasn't listening.

She brought in the shadows and sent them towards Tanith, who smirked and jumped onto the ceiling. Valkyrie pushed at the air but Tanith was already moving.

Upstairs.

Valkyrie followed her and leaped, but a boot found her face. She howled in pain and ignored the blood dripping from her nose. She ran into Alice's room. The window was open.

Tears came.

Valkyrie hurriedly checked Alice's cot.

But Alice wasn't there.
