Walking into homeroom on Monday, I was a little late because I overslept. It was a little embarrassing, but not much because I am usually not perfectly on time. I was the new kid because I only moved to New York a month ago.

"Morning, Clover!" my friendly teacher, Mrs. Banks, greeted me. "Did you bring a late slip?"

"Yup." I told her, handing over my late slip.

So yeah, my name is Clover Grass. Ironic right? Yeah, my parents are big nature freaks. Well PARENT and STEP PARENT. My dad left when I was born. At least he didn't leave after I had already gotten to know him. Actually, it's pretty common in my family, for a parent to leave at birth.

"Oh, by the way, Clover? We got a new student today," she explained, gesturing over to a boy that was unfamiliar. "And since he is a new student like you were just a month ago, you know what its like to be the new student." "Yes..." I wonder, waiting for her to get to the point, which by the way, was taking an excruciatingly long time.

"Well since he has many of the same classes with you, you need to show him around." she demanded. "Oh and the principal wanted me to tell you, by the way. If you were wondering"

It was like she read my mind! I was thinking that shouldn't the principal be telling me this stuff? Like seriously! This was crazy! But mostly freaky how she did that.

The bell rang for first period. I bolted out of homeroom, instantly forgetting about the new student.

"CLOVER! WAIT UP!" I heard someone scream from behind me.

I came to an abrupt stop. Oops. I turned slowly on my heels to see the new student swerving in and out of the crowded hallways, with skill, to catch up to me. I bit my lip, embarrassed on how I had completely forgotten all about him.

"Sorry." I apologized, lamely.

"It's ok. Everyone messes something up eventually." he said with humor in his voice.

He startled me when he looked up, and I saw his bright-green eyes, black hair and godly features. He was somewhat strong. He left me breathless and speechless. I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. At this point, I had noticed how close we were standing, so I quickly took a step back.

He must've noticed what I was doing, because he said, "Don't worry. I've got a girlfriend."

"Well isn't she lucky." I mumbled under my breath.

"What?" he asked.

"Oh, nothing..." I replied sheepishly.

The bell rang for class, meaning we were late. We both looked at each other worried. We spun around and sprinted down the hall to math class.

As we ran, I asked him, "By the way, you never told me your name yet. What's your name?"

He had a faraway look on his face, then looked at me and said confidently, "My name is Percy Jackson."
